I go to the gym a few times a week.
WITHOUT FAIL:
Everyone on the treadmills, 'bikes' and stair climber things is fat. And EVERY woman 'lifting' has something like 30 pounds on a leg machine, when they themselves weigh at least 30 pounds or more than they should. (Don't want to build muscle, you see, would make them look fat.)
I've gone for years, and this is consistent. The only things I do at the gym are things I can't do when not at the gym. I don't run, I don't ride anything, I don't go up fake stairs, I don't do sideways crap because I don't play basketball. It's not rocket science. But, slow cardio keeps you fat.
And lifting puny weights does nothing.
I just think that a lot of people go to the gym to just show off or something, it gives them an ego boost.. When I'm out running it's usually night and have my hoodup and no one would be able to tell it's me unless they got really close to me, I exercise for me, not to show off to people.. I never go home and post pics of my working out, like some people take pictures of them at the gym every time they go too.
I don't just run, I bike too, even if its cold out you just put on more clothes, if I wanna work my biceps or back I do chinups (keep addin weight), same thing for chest and triceps I do pushups or weighted dips, can do that stuff anywhere, even on a tree branch or something.
Just seems like a waste of money to have a gym membership when most these people don't seem to go consistently enough to see any progress anyway, maybe mental toughness like pushing themselves to train outside in the elements is exactly what they need to toughen up a bit.
