I appreciate this thread. Never heard of RoadRunner, but I always wanted to be a VIP -- $44.99 seems like a really reasonable price to be a VIP. I'm going to sign up now - thanks!

I had this similar thing happen someplace else. I threatened to get my attorney involved, and boy did I get my money back quick.
Normally most places don't like litigation nor want to deal with it for petty amounts.
Technically, if they didn't do anything, you could always go after them in small claims court. Again, they will likely not have their lawyer show up because it costs more than just refunding the $44.99. I've done this tactic before too, and it does work.
Yes -- it's a PITA, but hey, I work hard for my money...
Again, it's how far do you want to take it.
Happened to me as well. I called and they told me they have never heard of something like this happenening before. They also said “it must of been one of those one in a million things” .
They tried to use two different expired cards to charge me $59.99 recently. One card they attempted to charge 8 times. This definitely goes down as fishy. If I did have an active card on file with them for annual charges (I didn't), then why try charging a different card. Perhaps they actually tried to charge both of my cards simultaneously for a single VIP membership that I never asked for.
You deserve it with your username.
We got a bill today for $36 and it says to pay VIP RoadRunner which I have never heard of. Where do I report them. Is this a fake company or something.?
Just happened to me today and I haven’t been there, or to their website, in 4 years! Suddenly there’s a 33.99 pending charge on my card. Unbelievable.
That's why I don't buy there anymore.
Their prices suck Giant bloated elephant balls.
Makes you wonder how much money they make off the people who don't notice the charge. Crooks in my book.
You will get it back but you were probably better off just shooting them a call or email. My opinion of them was already a bit shady. I had a bad dealing w/ them back in early 90s when I in college. Never did business w/ them again after that.
Roadrunner Sports is STILL doing this shady auto-renew practice. Their playbook: you give a phone for the free rewards program, once you accumulate enough rewards to cover the annual VIP free, the worker says, “oh, I’m upgrading you to VIP” like they are doing you a favor. Then, the method you used for payment is linked to the auto-renew. You don’t really notice the first year charge because it’s coming out of the reward balance. The renewal fee will come out of your bank/credit card though.
So completely inappropriate, and in most states, illegal.
I also just got a mystery charge from them for $59.99 (when their website says 40?) because I once bought shoes as a guest on my boyfriend's account. To be super clear, I definitely used his account, because when I bought my shoes, I also bought socks he asked for using his rewards points The sales guy knew full well I was using someone else's account and had no qualms about this.
Apparently because his card had expired, they thought it was ok to just charge mine instead. Fortunately, when I called to investigate this, they agreed to reverse the charge and cancel the account with only the barest of follow up questions. I did put on my angry lady voice, but thankfully I didn't need to make any threats of litigation.
It's a pretty shady business practice, and I'm glad my card expires soon.
I'll expound for him.
Same kind of thing happened to me with this company some years back...I was ordering some shoes, the associate ask if I want to join a membership club at no cost (which will take a few bucks off the shoes). Ok, I say. 6 months or so later without my permission this free service is extended at a charge of $25 dollars.
I also contacted the company, got the charge dropped
and decided to never order from them again
this is how they do business
