HEADS UP: RoadRunner charged me $44.99 for a VIP Membership, even though I haven't bought anything from them in 2 years.

Possibly this is a case where the customer bought a VIP membership and there was a checkbox that indicated that the membership would be automatically renewed unless cancelled before the 1 year expiration date.

With the clutter on the payment page this checkbox was not noticed or you would have unchecked it.

This is similar to the active.com payment page where the person signing up for the race gets 3 free issues to Men's Health.

After the free issues the poor guy is charged for a 1 year subscription unless he unchecked the box when he signed up for the race.

Always check your bank statements!!!

And always read the fine print. Others had the same misfortune. If you call RRS customer service, a slight chance they may cancel the charges, explaining your acct is not used. Chase probably will advise you also to call RRS.

Reminds me I need to cancel my flotrack subscription. I sign up like maybe 1-2 times a year but they normally ding me for an extra month before I remember to cancel.

You are getting that charge because you signed up for it. They did not mysteriously get your credit card and start charging you. You basically asked them to do this.

So yes, always check your bank statements, but also read what you're agreeing to so you don't get in a situation where you are blaming someone else for the mistake you've made, as is the case here.

For all those saying I "signed" up for a VIP membership at one point, no that is totally false. I called RRS today and they gave me a full refund immediately no questions asked. I stated, "I have never at any point signed up for a VIP membership", and they refunded me instantly. They stated it most likely had to due with me using a certain coupon from a few years ago....but I don't know about that. Either way, the issue is now resolved

Do a quick google search. There are forums dedicated to people being unknowingly charged for a RRS VIP membership. I'm not the only one.

Thanks for posting this and the follow up. I just found a charge on my account, had been in a store 2 years ago, bought a shirt and declined VIP. They're not even in my state. My boy bought 2 pairs of sneakers, 5 socks and maybe something else, he said yes to VIP. I checked my statements for 2017 and 2018, I only have the shirt charge from 2017 and the VIP charge from today. I called to cancel it, they said sure no problem. But, couldn't find my account. Somehow my boy's info was on my account. I don't know how to explain that away, we didn't make our purchases at the same time. We were there for an event, I purchased am and he purchased pm. But the refund is happening. A google search and I found you and a bunch of other people saying, "two years" like my situation. So, yeah, check your statements.

Something similar happened to me a couple years back.

I used to have the VIP thing and cancelled it.

Years later, I bought something there again with out the VIP discount and they charged me after that the VIP thing again.

I called them and they removed the charge.

But I didn't like that they sneaked that in.

I would not buy there again.

Call them, they will refund you.

This happened to me too.

Not sure how that is improving their sales.

I was hit the the same charge for $44.99. It is the annual VIP membership renewal. I called the Rewards Plus Hotline at 855-314-0142. The representative offered to cancel my VIP membership and I will be getting a refund.

I had an email and a text from my bank a few days ago stating that a charge of $59.99 was attempted on my card from RRS. It was like 4 in the morning. I was a previous VIP member there, but haven't been in a couple of years. I never gave permission to charge an annual fee year in and out. My bank is looking into this as possible fraud.
