then the commentator doesn't know his history
aouita & maree shouda both run ~ 12'55 back in '85 if they hadn't got caught up in a tactical duel & messed around with the pace after 2 or 3k
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNk3XbICqv0then in '92, Kiptanui was in absolute fantastic shape, running 13-flat in brussels off total jog to 3k, a completely messed up record attempt
i saw that race on satellite & unfortunately not on youtube
Moses was in shape of his life in '92 even though he ran 12'54 years later but he wasn't in as good a shape as in '92
in brussels, he was capable of 12'50 - 12'52.5 if he'd had decent pacing to 3k
it was one of the most disappointing runs i have ever seen from pacing point of view as he was in shape to absolutely annihilate the 5k wr
this vid below shows how good he was in '92 & that he was in that kinda 5k shape above, ascertained from earlier 3k in koln where he destroyed baumann who had won 5k gold in Moses's illness/injury enforced absence in barcelona

if wr shouda been 12'55 in '85 & 12'50 in '92, then it dropping to 12'44 in '95 is no great indicator of any doping, just some "tightening up" of record
current iaaf tables only have 12'44 worth a 1'42-flat & 3'28-mid & 7'25+
those 800 - 3k figures are nothing special at all when you consider what the current records for those are...
