This is a hilarious story. I doubt Mr 10k winner cares. Hopefully he has a sense of humor and further hopefully he’s won several races in his life so getting a winning picture at a local Christmas race in a slow time shouldn’t mean much to him.
Anyways the best line of the story is this:
“There were also a number of steely-faced serious “runners” around. Stretching, hopping, running little sprints and looking altogether unfriendly in their specialty running gear.”
I know Ryan Cosens. He is a great local runner, wearing his Cal Coast running wear proudly. He does win his fair share of local events. He’s so good he can win in his training shoes, if that is safer on his body come race day. This is actually common in local so cal races, when many times in a 10k you are running around 5k finishers. Of course, some of the 5k finishers with lots of energy left...will race you at the end. This is just a “cool” pic for this 5k guy....not really a story. I only checked it out because I saw the phrase “hobby jogger”, and then saw Ryan. I imagine someone has told Ryan about his clever way of achieving LR fame. I had never heard that expression “hobby jogger”until I saw it on the latest “Frank Meza” thread on LR. Maybe it is in one of Pete Magill’s great running books.
