Game Of Thrones - Battle of the Bastards
The battle scenes in GoT are poorly done. This was where the show really came off the rails. It’s been progressively worse with each season. Early seasons were good only because the writers had Martin’s text to rely on. Go to the books, much better.
I agree with the content quality going down in terms of story line, but not with the quality of the battle scenes. Those are two very separate things in my mind.
I highly enjoy the battle scenes in GoT. Their method of following a single character's perspective is great. You can actually follow what's happening. Most battle scenes are pure chaos, with big explosions and/or blood being the only thing you can follow.

They’re just stylized Hollywood battles with no basis in history. No vanguard, no heavy calvary, no spear or pike men. Lead characters with no head protection or other armor. How silly was it to see Lannister running around in a horse in full armor but without anything on his head? The battles look like they were planned by a bunch of writers with no basis on martial warfare.

On rewatching, the CGI multiplication of the armies is too noticeable. Also, dwarf tossing! Booooo!
Argh, yes, Stirling Bridge! Milvian was Constantine. I wrote my Masters Thesis on the history of Scottish Independence, and I screwed that one up... yikes.
Ya, big differences between the movie and the real life battle (not the point of the thread, but good natured education is always appreciated.)
Cheers :-)

Of your choices, easily D-Day in Saving Private Ryan. Siege of Gondor is okay, but too long and it gets ridiculous with the giant oliphants and so on. Braveheart verges on silly. Milvian Bridge is a Roman battle in 312 involving Constantine, not the battle in Braveheart.
I don't know about "epic" but one of the best battles on film is the battle in the forest in Last of the Mohicans. Here's a clip, but you really should watch the whole movie from the beginning to get the full effect:
https://youtu.be/oyrPzy6y_IAThe siege of Ft. William Henry is excellent, as are all the action scenes. The performances are all great. You just have to overlook some clunky dialogue.
Another classic is Rorke's Drift in Zulu, although it's now a bit dated:

Outstanding movie, yes. I show it to my APUSH kids after they finish their exam (along with Glory and 13 Days). Outstanding battle scene, back when they didn't cost a billion dollars to shoot. Great call.
PS- The oiliphants are AWESOME. Shame on you.
PPS- Have you ever seen Zulu Dawn?
Baahubali
Last of the Mohicans is fantastic
Me gusta!
I would love to see more international films... the effects were slightly cheesy, but I love seeing the innovation.
The scene from Alexander was cool, too, now that I think of it.

I'm not a big fan of the battles in GoT, but I don't think it's because of the lack of Martin's guiding hand. Books 4 and 5 were pretty awful, and I think the shows depiction of the events from 4 & 5 were actually more entertaining than the books themselves. Book 6 may never be completed, and when it is, I don't have a lot of hope that it will be any good.
Martin's heart isn't really in the books anymore. He popped out the first three in two-year increments. It took him five years for book 4 and six years for book 5 (both of which sucked), and we're coming up on seven years for book 6. Book 6 will probably end up getting broken into two books, because nobody wants to buy a 2000-page book. Especially now that he's killed off almost all the interesting viewpoint characters and introduced a bunch we don't really give a sh!t about.
My vote would probably be for Saving Private Ryan.
The oliphants are way too big and Legolas acts like Spider-Man! :) However, the death of the Witch King is great. Zulu Dawn is pretty good but not up to the standard set by Zulu.
If you like truly excessive epic battle scenes you have to go with Chinese movies like Red Cliff:
... Would you accept: skeleton fight, from Jason and the Argonauts (1963)?

Charge of the Rohirrim
was particularly ridiculous. Cavalry doesn't charge into massed pike infantry and win. It usually doesn't charge them at all, the horses balk instead of plowing into them. They attack the flanks instead, and infantry forms square to prevent that, but loses mobility as a result.

Yes true, that and Zulu are my favs.
