I first read about this guy years ago, has always only ran twice a week, and now just ran a 5:29.81 mile just before his 72nd birthday... pretty impressive. He can beat a hell of a lot of much younger men.

I am ten years younger and have switched to two on/two off with lots of cross training. Amazing improvement in recovery
I could crush him in a mile
Impressive indeed, he even looks a bit like Hitler, which can never hurt of course.

That's some serious muscle definition for someone his age.

Holy crap Batman...are you kidding me? 5:29 @ 71 yoa - that's freaking ~94% age-graded! (world class!). I'm 15 yrs younger than this cat and can barely break 7 mins - and that's with a tailwind! ?. And look at this cat - he doesn't look a day over 50! I've never seen anything like this - it's as if some people have found the fountain of youth. Not only is the cat very fast, but he looks so young!
super awesome. I TT'd one myself recently [age 44] and I cant squeak under 5:50... I keep trying [most recent effort, 5:51]
kudos to the [slightly older] man :D
I'm guessing I wont be able to break 7:30 at his age

Yup. Dude is ripped. I wonder if he gets tested for exogenous testosterone?

He apparently spends more time lifting and cross training than running. I can’t imagine spending more time at the gym than running, I would think that would make most serious runners pretty ripped.
Imagine how fast he would run if he started doing some real mileage!
Age 70-74. Outdoor WR mile holder -5:19
Racing the 100 at age 76 for some reason
From the photo he looks to be heavily involved in strength training! Without a doubt this is the key for him running well at such an age. For all those that are in the gym or doing something in regards to strength you really are missing out!

Of course Ed Whitlock ran a very similar mile time to this guy at the same age, without even training for the mile (always training for longer races, did little to no speed work), and with the EXACT OPPOSITE approach: HIGH mileage, NO "cross training", NO strength training, NO off days, NO speed work.
So......there are different ways to succeed! One thing they have in common: extremely talented and durable/healthy.

Correct: has only RUN twice.
Color me depressed.
I just hope you're not a teacher.
Whitlock was pure skin & bones. This cat has got some excellent muscularity for his age - who would you rather look like? ?

I'd kick his behind. My age is irrelevant, by the way.

You are on the autism spectrum right? Do you spend all day on twitter and other social media losing your mind at all of the grammar and spelling mistakes? Does "lol" drive you mad? That's clearly not a real word.
Because you don't get social cues and norms I'll explain it to you: people on message boards write messages in seconds without caring about how they spell, if they use correct punctuation or grammar, etc. It's because they don't care. Now I understand you care, but that's because you have a mental disability. You are doing the equivalent of running around on a beach demanding people put on more formal clothing as "people shouldn't dress that way in public". You fail to recognise, because of your mental disability, that a beach is different than, for example, going to work. Not every public place is the same and you don't dress the same. Writing is like that. Only a fool , or of course, people like you who have a mental disability, would think you need to write the same way for all occasions. That's just not the case. Ask your caregiver if you need further explanation.
Looks early 70s to me. I'm 54 and I look like I could be his kid.

This was the most incredibly satisfying response I have ever read.
In 2010 he ran 65.22 400m for 2nd place
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
