They should just give GH back the Hind name.

Love my Hind apparel and dirt cheap too from TJ Maxx

You realize that isn't the "Hind" apparel from the original company, right? They sold the name and now are owned by a conglomerate called Adjmi:
I'd post the link but don't want to show the image so just go to adjmi(dot)com and select "Hind" from their brand portfolio.

Did not know that still thought Saucony owned it.
Ohh well still like some of their products.

Bah. If that's true, I'm going to really miss their iconic Boston running pant. First starting buying them when they were sold as the Hind Munich pant.

Love those Boston pants. I've got a dozen pair, with four in unopened packages. Best winter pants I've found for up north here in Wisco.
Apparel along with track spikes are loss leaders. Saucony will make apparel but it will be outsourced and end up on the website, outlet stores and potentially a handful of premium specialty dealers. I had not heard of them walking away from Amazon which would follow suit in what asics did this year. That is a lot of dollars to walk away from so hopefully they are prepared for that big number to go away and not automatically be absorbed into other stores.
Also- Saucony hasn't had Hind for almost a decade so it's not like it's a recent change
From what I can recall, the Saucony / Hind brands were bought by Stride Rite. Which was then acquired by Collective Brands. In 2012 Wolverine Worldwide acquired Saucony, Stride Rite, Sperry, & Keds. Somewhere along the way the Hind brand name was auctioned off. But where on earth do they sell their apparel? — http://www.hind.com
The company that bought Hind sells only in the "discount retailer" realm from what I know....at least for the Hind name. The same company that owns them also owns Layer 8, Danskin, Fila, and others. You'll only find these at stores like TJ Maxx, Marshalls and, of course, Amazon.
What's odd is that the website for the company that owns these , adjmi(dot)com lists "Champion" in their portfolio of brands, but I thought Champion was owned by HanesBrands, so maybe they license out the name?

SAUCONY WILL NO LONGER MAKE APPAREL FOR ANY CHANNELS. You are correct on a couple of your other points though. Spikes and racing flats are loss leaders.
How does this impact people like Molly Huddle, Ben True, and Jared Ward?
Is New Balance next? Brooks?

I read somewhere a month or so ago that Brooks reduced their apparel line this past Spring. If I can remember where I saw it, I'll post the link.

It might not be a bad idea to keep it simple- basic running shorts- 1 style for men, 1 for women
Cold weather gear- a couple tops and tights and maybe half tights.
Here is what one company is doing, will any of the big shoe companies follow?
Six months in, and Amazon is still free of Hammer Products. It was a year-long process and takes daily monitoring and enforcement, but we made it happen, and upheld our promise. Here’s what happened since:
1. We’ve broken sales records every month since Amazon shut down.
2. We see a significant increase in the number of new retail accounts each week.
3. Dealer locator traffic is up 500% as loyal fans seek out local purchasing avenues.
4. Full-line Hammer dealers are showing exponential sales growth.
5. Countless in-store sales and restored relationships at the local level.
6. Brand identity and value is strengthened and protected.
7. Industry recognition and praise—we’re challenging others to follow our lead and change retail for the better.
8. Beyond all the metrics, what fuels our fire is this: Every day we hear from hard-working folks like you thanking us for our dedication to doing business right.
We’ve proven that selling on Amazon.com and with online crooks like them is a choice. We’ve chosen to side with you instead. We’re happy to say that it has paid.
Are the other brands on your shelves making decisions in your best interests? If not, it’s time to realign your purchases with your values. Join the movement to support real people and real shops. We’re playing by different rules, and winning.

I had never heard of Hind when I found Hind running pants at my local Marshall's store last fall. They were $16 to $20. 88% polyester / 12% spandies, made in China, Hydra label below back pocket zipper, with RN#70892 inside. These may not be like the Munich pants but they fit me great even though they are labeled small (28-30). They fit like a medium size. I have tried other brands of running pants at Marshalls and at a few sporting good stores and have not found any yet that I like as much as these.
I was told from someone high up at Saucony while at TRE last week that this is true, to a degree.
They will stop making mass market apparel for speciality retail. They will continue to make some pieces for direct sale through their online ecommerce site. I believe they are also going to still do kit for athletes.
And, if you've been paying attention to the industry in the last couple of years, they started pulling back on smaller time athletes quite a while ago.
I don't think it's Brooks, I saw their catalog for next fall and there were 9-10 different men's shorts alone.
GH Sports is run by the late Greg Hind's family who founded Hind Performance Apparel.
They are a small family operation now.

Its smart move to downsize the apparel offerings. The big box selling has all but stopped ( note the store closures) what is sold at big box is discounted and always on closeout. The effort and time to do collections for speciality in the end is just not profitable and it does not sell more shoes.
Direct to consumer on their website is easy to mange as well and far more profitable even when they close it out.
None of this has anything to do with athletes and sponsorship.
