dumb dumb dumb
why would you let 2 track runners stay in it with 10k to go ?
and both finished in second place, which is proof that they should have just blazed it.
stupid.
great race by shalane and Gef.

True.
I am happy for Kamworor though.
I wanted Kipsang to win but I am very happy for Kamworor. This gives him the confidence and being our next generation (so to speak) of our runners, together with Kirui Geoffrey and Wanjiru, the status quo has not been disrupted.
Shalane ran a great race. I am happy for her. She has toiled for years and today, as they say, every dog has its day. It was clearly her day. Go Shalane!
I think that Keitany just didn't have it today. She was beaten by a minute, and off the slow pace still didn't have a lot of fight toward the end.

Yes, I am thinking the same. Keitany stated before the race that she was there to win, not go after the course record. I think that was a dead give away of the shape that she thought she was in.
Was there really anybody in the field that was clearly better than Flanagan besides Keitany? Maybe Edna Kiplagat, who just came off running at Worlds.
Weird race for Mary given that she blazed a half marathon just a few weeks ago. This should’ve felt like a jog to her.

I am happy Kamworor won, however Kipsang almost got him at the end. I like Kipsang too, very classy. It was good to see Kipochoge there congratulating them at the end. These guys are all easy to root for.
Shalane ran a start race, let the pace go slow for as long as possible and then drop the hammer. Perhaps Keitany was a little off today, who knows. Either way a huge win for Shalane.
I swear Kipsang didn't realize how close he was to the finish. Because if he starts that kick just *50 yards* earlier and I think he could have won. Kamworor looked extremely rough the last 400m. Its incredible that in 2017 many of the East Africans still display bizarre tactics at times.
I always run a "dumb race" when I am in lousy shape.

Running conservatively is not in her vocabulary.

Kinda like the Steeple Chase, East Africans have much better raw speed but Americans can win with tactics. You see Americans nailing the jumps and East Africans just powering through and catching up on lost time. Same kind of thing in the marathon.

I agree with this, but i think it only applies to those african runners who don't have a lot of track experience. Bekele, Tirunesh , Kipchoge can race in any race, because they are great tactically and they have incredible track speed. So if it is fast, they are going to win. If it is slow, they are going to win.
Kenyans continue to dominate the steeple chase in the men's division, and Emma's win was more of a one off, due to the conditions and one of the kenyans running the wrong way.
However, Americans are great tactical runners, and in a slow, tactical race they will always be in the hunt.
