This is so funny in a sad way because Magness himself is an ego driven coach.
Case in point:
- many of his posts, tweets, etc are related to him telling others how they do it wrong and how he thinks they should do it (running, coaching). He is not simply about instruction or education but rather about telling you if you aren't doing it that way you are doing it wrong. His passive aggressive tone to most everything he does makes him few friends in the coaching ranks. I have heard him referred to as the "King of SubTweet". Ha, definitely the title of an ego driven coach. He thinks his way is right and everything else is wrong, and posts with an air of superiority to everything he says. He fails to realize that in the real world the their are countless personalities and human variations so that many combinations of things can work and be successful and his way isn't always best for the situation. Sad his ego blinds his analytical mind on this issue. I can give you countless examples of coaches with all different styles and personality that are success and are failures. The biggest deciding factor is that coach's style right for that particular person or situation.
- Steve loves to lead everyone to believe he is the man behind the accomplishments of many pro athletes, except when you talk to those athletes you find he is simply an advisor or reviewer of their programs or someone who they may ask for an opinion from. He actually coaches very few athletes out side of his Univ. of Houston team but includes many in his tweets and website. Examples: he does not coach Sara Hall or Neely Spence-Gracie but rather advises them or is a resource for them at best. You'd never know that listening to him. He is selling himself, he is an ego driven coach in many respects.
Steve, if you read this, an we know you will as you are a ego driven coach, you would help and reach many more people if you educated and posted with humility. Putting out good information does not require chastising those who do it differently in a passive-aggressive tone. Recognize there are many ways to attack the same problem that many be successful. Their are those of us in the running world who ignore what you say (and our numbers are growing) at this point mainly because we have a hard time stomaching the way you say it. The enemy of peer to peer communication is smugness and arrogance, both of which you exude Take that off the table and you will be much more successful in communicating your research and ideas. Try this, when you write an article simply state an educational idea/premise and reasons behind it and then recognize the exceptions and variations that may be out there and there are no absolutes on the issue, and advise that while there are other ways you recommend this way for the stated reasons. This God like complex you write and post from is disturbing and off putting.
