they are lacking their drive and hunger these days, sad to see
I read the word, 'hunger,' as 'hungover.'
Hungover makes much more sense with osu being located in the drinking capitol of the U.S.
Dave Smith must use foreigners to win championships. Not enough Kenyans this year.

Like German Fernandez, Chad Noelle, Kaela Edwards and Josh Thompson (all extremely successful with pro contracts over the past few years) are Kenyan or foreign?!
Move on...they're having a bad year. So what. Dave Smith uses one or two foreigners to complement a mainly US team, which is sensible and very common, given that OSU doesn't tend to get the US talent depth like Colorado et al (nor does OSU have the huge altitude advantage that turns fairly average runners in to very good ones in a couple of years). Give it a rest mate, he's got a fantastic track record, especially given the material he has to work with.
I thought Martin Smith only coached Americans. Looks like he finally caved, and had to get foreigners to win.

Ok, bad example.
German got worse each year in college.
Chad Noelle was Oregon transfer and Dave Smith reaped benefits of his base.
Kaela Smith...I could give him this one. Did she win NCAAs last year? I know she was favorite and too lazy to look up.
Josh Thompson...what was he, like 30?
German ran 3:34 in July after his final year and was an NCAA champion and NCAA record holder.
Noelle was a 341 guy coming from Oregon, improved at OSU and was also 1500m NCAA champion in his 2nd year at OSU. Running 1:47/3:38/756
Edwards was the NCAA mile champion in 2016
as a senior, broke the NCAA record in the 1000m, 2nd in the 800m and ran 2:01 among other numerous achievements.
Thompson ran 3:38/356/8:28 steeple and was 4th at NCAAs in a very competitive year. Plus individual first team All-American in all 3 seasons in the same year. Thompson was a 4:17 miler coming in.
Kirubel Erassa is also an American citizen, the racists on here may try to deny it though. He was 2nd to Cheserek at NCAAs and 3rd behind Lawi. Plus ran 7:49/13:27/3:39.
All are current sponsored professionals minus German who has essentially retired.
All Americans and all developed fantastically at OSU. There's a number of other examples as well.
....and none of this made a difference when the OSU men got smoked and took 3rd in Big 12. With zero KOLAS pts they are at risk of missing the dance if Illinois turns up in the regional or if MN runs like they did at the Nutty
In the last 10 years OK State has won 3 NCAA titles, 9 straight Big 12 titles and 4 of those other years were on the podium. Put that in your juice box and suck it :).
How many schools can even come close to comparing with them in the last decade? Only Colorado really. Down years happen. The Pokes will be back on top again.

Probably a lot more if people used all their track scholarships for XC. XC scholarships should be capped at 5 to keep schools like OSU, Colorado, and Furman from having unfair advantages.

Correct. A very angry and bitter guy.
OKST is a victim of their own success after winning 3 titles in 4 years (was pretty close to 4 in 5 in 2013). Anything is going to be a decline after that. Not having a podium finish since then is probably a little disappointing, but they have had some great individuals (Erassa, Noelle and Edwards come to mind recently)

I think "smoked" is certainly an exaggeration, it was a pretty close race. Losing to ISU is not nearly as big as a red flag as losing to Texas for me though. And them not having and KOLAS points is a concern. If they fail to make it to nationals that would be a huge disappointment, and if that happens I might entertain conversation about OKST's decline.
However, I'm pretty confident they will and place in the top 15. And regardless, this is undoubtedly a successful program that has produced results. Say what you want about Dave Smith, but he's only 2nd to Wetmore and Colorado in my book as far as the best men's program this past decade.
All fair points. This is a discussion exactly because they've been so good for a decade. When Wisco lost their big ten title streak a couple years ago it was a big deal and clearly their program is not where it was when Jerry was coaching. I think OSU is going to be good as long as DS is the coach but ISU is going to win more titles as long as Jamie Pollard is the AD. He is the biggest reason for ISU success because he understands this sport better than any D1 AD in the country and has a track record of great hires across most sports. Not only that but he gave the program his first born son who is a stud.
With 3 of okstate's best athletes injured. No wonder they lost. Cerake Geberkidane, Elliot Bowker, and Kevin Mulcaire are all listed on the roster but did not race. Probably would have been a much different race with these guys in

And ISU was running without 3 of their top guys from last year so does that really matter?
It is different saying that one team had 3 guys who graduated w/o eligibility than saying that one team had 3 really talented guys with eligibility who could not run because of injury.

ISU has one guy injured and 2 more with eligibility who decided not to compete this year. Imagine if all 3 were running.....but they were not for various reasons. Had nothing to do with running out of eligibility and means nothing because you run with the guys that line up.
It will be interesting to see how OSU vs ISU plays out on Friday over 10k.
