I'm not gonna disagree that Hetfield is the face of the band and he does perform well live. You have to admit Lars more recognizable than your average drummer though.
I do disagree that i'm just going to ignore Lar's half-ass playing at shows. when I listen to songs, i like to hear all the instruments, not just vocals/rhythm guitar. There are actually some bands, where i find the drummer is the focal point or at least most interesting instrument to me (Absu, Atheist, cryptopsy)
I go to lots metal shows and if any of the band members aren't pulling their weight, its a disappointing concert to me
