Agree that UMass is horrible. I ran for Coach Obrien. He is a horrible human being, and an equally bad coach. I never came close to my potential in college. Haunts me to this day.

2nd Ohio State. They used to get the best of the best from OH. And yet, they always drastically under-performed.

Also, I wouldn't really call Stanford a "big school." They have, what, 7,000 undergrads compared to ~45K for the other schools being discussed.
True, but I think the fact that Stanford is a really, really, good team is more relevant. The guy who posted the original quote is probably just a particularly pissy member of the extremely large club of kids who got rejected by Stanford.

Stanford and it's not even close number 1 recruiting classes every year every year hardly ever sniff the top 10 come NCAA's in Cross or Track for that matter. Stanford is where great runners go to get slower/injured.
They hardly ever sniff the top 10? Have you been drinking? In the last TWENTY ONE years, they have only failed to finish top 10 three times (19th in 2013, 16th in 2012, and 19th in 2007), and they have FIFTEEN top five finishes in the last 21 years.
No shout outs for Seton Hall???? Big East school and no one can break 27 for 8 K?

O'Brien sounds like quite the Masshole.
FSU seems to have gone down the crapper.

They were 23rd at NCAA Gary’s last season there (2011). Women made Nationals one time in history.

North Central isn't big, it's DIII, and it's not bad. They're perennially a top three team in the nation
It's North Carolina and it's not close. 15th in the SE, behind ECU and Morehead State. Also has the potential to be a top 10 program every year. Baylor and A&M get it done on the track, where as UNC doesn't even do that. My nod goes to the Tar Holes in Chapel Hill. Well done Van Alstyne and Logan Roberts.
It’s the scholarships stoopid......

Besides the obviously ironic ones people have posted, a lot of these just don't even belong in this conversation.
Purdue is good enough to have gotten a few votes in the ustfccca coaches' poll this past week. Texas A&M is among the better teams in the weak South Central region. On the women's side, Georgia will probably make nationals.
There are probably even more on this list, and certainly throughout this thread, that are well outside the scope of the original question.
I was thinking of walking on for the track and field team at UMass...
Is it still a bad idea?
Southern Cal isn't the worst, but it's never any good compared to their outdoor T&F program
How do you know the op was not talking about high school?
There was another thread at the same time "Best small school at cross country" at they were talking about colleges, I assumed it was a play off of that. Also assume she/he would have said something by now.

I know Florida, Louisville and Georgia have made it to nationals in the past few years. UK and A&M aren't that bad. Clemson is pretty bad but they had a girl pretty high up there I think last year? Jim Ryun makes Kansas immune to slander (kidding).
Agree with Baylor, Rutgers, BC and UCF. Don't know anything about Nebraska and Iowa but that may speak for itself.
