You are a sick human being for making a joke of this.

Since country music fans are mostly conservative, the gunman must be a liberal nutjob like the guy who shot the Congressman at baseball practice.
Then you will have to accept that incidences like Vegas, and Orlando, and Sandy Hook, and San Bernadino are going to happen.
It is the price we all pay for the 2nd Amendment. Just hope you are never in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Probably the best post on this thread. What a shame an all-powerful god couldn't have stopped this incident.
Too bad atheists were not in charge as they were in Stalin's Russia, Hitler's Germany, and Mao's China.

Instead of deflecting why don't you address the question of a neglectful and/or powerless god?

An atheist is currently president of the USA.

Is there an alternate universe where killing people does not inspire fear and violence?
Not saying it doesn't do those things. I'm saying that if his aim was just to kill as many people as possibly but he wasn't interested in trying to inspiring fear in his victims and society, or hoping his actions would inspire others to do the same, then I'm not sure how we can call it terrorism, by you own definition.
The US can do so much better. We are the outlier among all developed nations. There have been many proposed solutions that are ignored. None of them are perfect but they would reduce the rate of this. Why not take steps to do that instead of throwing up your hands and concluding that nothing will help? There will always be violence but we should not just accept that we can nothing do reduce the frequency and deadliness of gun violence in our country,

I'm pretty sure he's a secret Muslim trying to destroy America.
This is a very valid point and very good insight. The solution, in my opinion, is to have to register guns like you would vehicles and have licenses required. That way people are properly trained and if a gun goes missing, it can be reported and tracked. It is the only true solution here as these mass shootings will only continue to become more common.
Did you listen to Trump's speech? I suspect many foreigners, especially tourists in Las Vegas did. Trump's prayers are only for American victims?
"Melania and I are praying for every American who has been hurt, wounded, or lost the ones they love so dearly in this terrible, terrible attack."
Criminals would not bother getting licenses or registering their guns. "Solutions" like this only inconvenience law abiding citizens. The only real solution is for more law abiding citizens to get properly armed.
who was Ramon Casiano?
i am all for any type of gun control, but have to agree that most anything short of a massive Australia style effort would not make a difference. And that is largely by design. The NRA was originally a club to try to make sure Americans knew how to shoot a gun in case there was another world war. The biggest problem during a draft is training people to shoot weapons. People who hunt or did marksmanship competitions were able to be battle ready in a fraction of the time that people who never handled a gun. So, the NRA did marksmanship competitions and firearms training. Then, the gun industry took over the NRA and politicized it for their own benefit. The gun industry realized that crime and political unrest were their biggest market movers. The civil rights riots of the 60s and urban decay of the 70s left people feeling like they weren't safe without owning a gun. Then, the gun industry started making cheaper and cheaper firearms. And then there was a massive escalation in firepower with semi-automatic weapons, assault rifles, hollow point bullets and high capacity clips. Every time any reasonable restriction is proposed, people go on a shopping spree. Now, there are 112 guns per 100 US citizens. Compare that to 30 per 100 in Canada. The number of firearms in the US is so out of control that it is just about impossible to do anything about it except to try to limit the supply of new firearms hitting the market. But even that is not going to do much to limit access to the 300+ million firearms that are already in the country.
And all of this is totally by design. More firearms without a doubt will mean more violence. It doesn't matter how conscientious a gun owner is, firearms get stolen all the time and put on a thriving black market for criminals and gangs. That means more gun crime. And the more guns there are in people's homes means more domestic violence and guns being drawn in disputes between neighbors or drunk friends at a party. The more crime and guns are in the news, the more people want to have a gun for their own protection. Then, add in the fringe patriot/survivalist types and you have people stockpiling large quantities of weapons and ammunition just in case something big happens.
And now, we have the problem of mass shootings. No surprise that after Sandy Hook, the NRA's response was that we need more people at schools with guns. i guess now we will need to legalized shoulder fired anti tank missiles because those could have really made a difference in Las Vegas.
So, the gun nuts won. There are now so many guns that mass shootings are now a part of life in the US and nothing can really be done about it.

I feel if we end up with sweeping gun reform and we are like Australia, then sick or criminally minded people WILL find other ways, . . .
Available statistics support the idea that the Australian gun buyback has significantly reduced firearm death rates and there is no indication that it has had an impact on violent death rates by other means. This is not to suggest that it is a panacea or even necessarily transferable to the US but your anecdotal statement is not well supported by the data.
I'm a life-long liberal but have completely given up on any sort of gun control here. The US is awash with firearms, plenty of them in the hands of dirtbag criminals, and it's a fact that water is already under the bridge. Our feckless democrats talk about gun control as a wedge issue, knowing that there is nothing that can actually be accomplished regarding effective gun control.
There is also the point, tangential here, that perhaps in the long run it's a good thing for the government to be afraid of the citizenry.
In any event, events like this happen. It's life and death in the big city kids. One thing the US could use more of is the old-fashioned and tough fatalism that previous generations possessed. The British still do. Keep moving forward in your life. It will end some day. Nobody will shed a tear. Until then, move forward. That's all there is.
The wild card in all this is the report that a woman near the front of the crowd was telling everyone there that they were going to die. 45 minutes later the shooting started.
Was this just a coincidence? Or did that woman know what was coming?

Here's an example. Could be the fog of war, or it could be evidence of collusion with others.
