The goals of this person would be 19-20 minute 5k.
Like I know a friend who started running last year. He's in HS. Only ran about 10-15mpw all fall. He just wanted to get used to running. and ran a 30 minute 5k. Only raced 2 or 3 times. Didn't really run November-December. Started running 20-25mpw last winter/spring for track. He ran 70 for the 400, 2:40 for the 800, 6:40 for the 1600. Ran a bit of summer track with some sprint training and some form fixtures. This summer he just wanted to be consistent. Ran 5-6 days per week. started running 25-30mpw in July. Now he's trying to pick it up to 30-40mpw. The only thing he really needs to focus on is his form (his stride and arms) and just being consistent and not stopping.
But he raced a few times and they were pretty bad. And I'm not sure if he's psyching himself out and doesn't know how to race/pace himself.
Like he raced last Saturday and he said that he just wasn't sure if he should get up there with that lead group or if he should stay back and try to pass people.
But he also said that he wasn't sure how hard to race or if it should be comfortable/uncomfortable.
He also mentioned that he's not sure about his easy pace. Currently it's 10:00-11:30.
