All 3 of these young ladies are receiving excellent coaching.
There is no way that any quality coach would have their runners peaking in August.
a month from now if all 3 have not run faster on another course then we probably have our answer..
What's weird is how you keep coming back here and bumping this thread up for attention.

False. You want them to peak, but that doesn't happen as often as you think in high school. Sorry coach, the conditions and course will play a MUCH larger role than peaking the last 2 meets. If the State Meet were held on that course in ideal conditions, then you might have some "meat" in your statement, but as it stands, you don't. I think this is M.A. who is using the handle Suspectable (you meant Susceptible).

Yeah, sub 17 is nothing special for a female in high school. Are you kidding or on something?

To confirm what you don't appear to understand, a sub 17 is very special for a female high school runner.

Hopefully a UM recruit right?
Hope probably not required. Forgone conclusion possibly.

3 sub 17 girls from Benzie ran today at Michigan State (Forest Akers)
Ackley 2nd in 17:22, Kearney 5th in 17:49, Forsyth 7th in 18:05
(1st was Olivia Theis in 16:59)
The conditions were not as good at Michigan State as I understand they were at Benzie. The weather was 80 degrees and sunny, the course seemed a little soft and the MSU coach mentioned that there was one area (~200m) that was soggy. However, Kearney and especially Forsyth did not run nearly as well, while Ackley's run was close to her run at Benzie. Given all that, I think the emphasis should be placed on Olivia Theis with another sub 17 for Michigan girls. I would say that her time is more impressive than the Benzie times. It's also at least 15 seconds faster than Goethals and Finn ever ran at the Spartan Invite. By the way, I believe her sister (a sophomore) came in third.
Good for Olivia! I believe her school moved up to D2 this year which means none of the top 3 were D1. Has that ever happened before?

Have been there before and wheeled it pretty close. A coach there this year said he had 4915 with the wheel doing tangents and then had 3.02 on his garmin running the open.
So maybe 30 seconds fast. Conditions were absolutely perfect yesterday, I figured with the girls that were there they would have a shot at breaking 17 and they didn't disappoint.
All 3 are legit, plus 4th place is a stud as well.
A month later, this seems right - probably slightly more than 30 seconds fast. Call it perfect weather and course conditions if you want, but if I'm evaluating runners I'm probably excluding these results until I see them again.
I looked at the top 50 from the big school race. Only four girls have run faster than this race so far this year (#4 by 16.5 seconds, #7 by 10.6 seconds, #20 by 1.9 seconds, and #46 by 40.7(!) seconds). Ackley is the only top 3 finisher to be within 30 seconds, at -27.8 in another race.
On average, the next best time this season for the top 50 is 32.9 seconds slower, and it's pretty consistent as you move down the list - top 10 is -35.4, top 20 is -33.2, top 30 is -32.1, top 40 is -35.4.
Theis is head and shoulders above the crowd in Michigan this year, I think. She's been sub-17:00 twice, on courses that are historically legit (and, frankly, on days that were pretty crappy weather-wise - hot and humid, both.)
Agree completely on Theis. We were at both MSU and Cougar Falcon and both days were HOT! The MSU course hasn't run as fast lately as it used to, the grass while lush and awesome for golf is a little more spongey than it used to be, then a very hot day. Cougar Falcon course was in excellent conditions but it was extremely hot that day, around 82 at race time with high humidity. Was pushing over 90 during the JV races.
The people arguing the course is not short, are the same ones who've repeatedly said they've purposely measured the course at least 100 meters short.
This is dumb. The course is short.
I have never been to Michigan.
Well those 3 girls went 17:30, 18:10, 17:49 at the Michigan State Meet so guessing that means Benzie was a bit fast. Olivia Theis did however break Megan Goethals course record with an impressive 16:52

What happened to Forsyth at State? I’m not from Michigan, but I do follow the high school running scene fairly closely.
Actually she didn’t seem to have many good performances this year compared to her junior year.
The course was way short.

Correct. This is pretty obvious to anyone who has a rudimentary understanding of probability and/or cross-country. You really don’t need a stats degree (athough I happen to have one) to figure it out. There are a few courses like that in Michigan. It’s cross-country, afer all. Allendale, Otsego, Benzie, Stockbridge, Lainsburg, etc. I am not upset about it, just stating what everyone knows (even athletes who have PRs from those places are generally aware that they are short).
I do think MIS was running a tad slow (it was kind of cold and wet/soggy), but Theis still set the record and a handful of athletes PRed so it couldn’t have been too bad. For reference, the course is known as a blazer.
Kearney had a great race to take second behind Theis. Ackley won her division. I can’t imagine they are too upset about their finishes. I think they can both compete for decent finishes at FLN. Forsyth has had an up and down season, but the talent and grit are definitely there. I still would not be too surprised to see her qualify for FLN.
I know we have seen some crazy results from Claudia Lane this fall and she could very well be on her way to GOAT status as far as HS running is concerned. I still would not 100% count Theis out though. She is that tough. Let’s go, MI runners!!
