Just wondering. I searched the web and couldn't find anything. Probably a complete Non-PC question. I'm not trying to put down the Women Shot Putters, I'm just curious......

I'm sure we'll find out soon enough...

~8.8# instead of 16#. Seems like 110' would easily be within reach.
Well over 100ft and the SJW would riot when they found out how "equal" men and women are.
Male Olympic shot putters could probably throw the ladies shot like it was a softball.

Not so much. I would bet that if a world class male shot putter tried to throw the women's weight shot as far as he could (using a legal technique) that he'd probably hyper-extend his elbow very badly.
Farther than a woman and that's with the woman still clinging to it.
Sept. 20, 2011 in Warsaw:
In a very interesting men's Shot Put competition - throwers had two throws each with 8, 7, 6 and 5 kg implements - the overall winner was Canada's Dylan Armstrong with an 88.67m score over Olympic champion Tomasz Majewski (88.64) and Christian Cantwell (87.24). With the 8 kg shot the best was Cantwell (20.27m); with the standard 7 kg again Cantwell achieved the best mark at 21.42; but with 6 kg Armstrong was the best (23.26m) and with the 5 kg Majewski tossed to 24.88m. The marks for the top trio: 1. Armstrong (20.03-21.23-23.26-24.15), 2. Majewski (19.75-20.86-23.15-24.88), 3. Cantwell (20.27-21.42-22.71-22.81).
How would I know.... this site is not LetsThrow.Com ?
But since anything a man can do, a woman can do better...
the radical feminists will claim the women would throw it farther.
About as far as you could put a baseball, except not quite. Probably not far. They call it a "put" because it's not a throw, the form isn't designed for a huge velocity at release, only a good velocity for a heavy object.

They should allow any throw. At the moment it's about as real an event as race walking.
As a decathlete, I could throw 45 feet with the men's shot. I could throw about 52 with the hs boys shot, and about 65 feet with the women's shot.
It should give some indication of relative distances elite throwers could achieve.
It did tend to hurt my elbow to throw the women's shot, I tended to feel like it was "too fast."
The excerpt above about the multi-weight shot put competition is really intriguing. I had the privilege to watch Cantwell in training a few times, and I remember one session in particular he was working out with another (less accomplished) thrower. Cantwell was throwing around 70', and the other thrower was really struggling, throwing way shorter than his normal. I watched for awhile and realized they were throwing a 20# shot, which explained the other guy struggling. So I asked Cantwell how he was still able to get such massive throws with the heavier weight and he told me that, with his strength, he wasn't as limited by the weight as he was by his technique and timing.
The shot put is really an awesome event that doesn't get enough play. Track has some serious presentation problems, but the field events really get shafted in that regard. So much drama, so much pressure on each throw/jump.
That's really interesting.
Kind of like a tennis serve, I guess. You have to have a base level of explosiveness to hit a ball 130mph, but beyond that, it's all about technique and timing. I guess we just have a harder time crediting the big eaters for the elegance of their craft.
I really thought the poster "exthrower" would be all over this thread.
As for the OP's question, I'd bet it's a nonlinear relationship (i'e., not, for example, half the weight meaning double the distance). I'll guess roughly 4/3 as far, or about 28-29m.
back when i was stupid and tried out for field events and threw the shot put, i could throw the male's iron ballsack about 35 feet. one day i mistakenly threw the women's like 50 feet and thought i somehow became the hulk.
that thing fkn weights 4kg, I run 800m and threw that thing 20m in my first try.
its hilarious
Kinda like sprinting too. Weight training only takes you that far. The same even holds true for marathon running.
