On the men’s side, I just don’t think Mines is a good enough team, and they seem to run their best at co defense and regionals and then take a step back at nationals.
GV is good, very good. But I just can’t imagine that they’re on the level Adams likely will be on. They’re relying on a guy who didn’t make Adams top 7 last year to be their 3-5 guy. Even if Panning gets back to his normal 3-4th place, odds are there will be 1-2 Adams guys there too. Sharnas will likely make a big impact. Mach solid. Then idk.
Adams has holes too. Godabuday is obviously not perfectly fit, and maybe not entirely healthy. Gedyon and Ramirez have been their most consistent two and should give them a solid 1-2 in the top 10. You’d think Gidabuday should have a quick improvement and be a top 15 guy. Between 2 other All-Americans from last year (Adams & Joseph) I’d think they’ll have 2 more top 30.
Women’s.....I don’t follow as closely but I’ll take a stab.
Cal Baptist is in very unfamiliar territory so I think they won’t quite know how to fight at the front of a national meet like GV and Adams.
It was hard to pick between GV and Adams. One has 3 front runners and then a fall off. The other a solid pack 1-5 but back a little farther. I gave the edge to Adams for this reason; I think their first 3 will all be in the top 15. I think GVs first girl will likely be around 15th and then they’ll come in pretty rapidly after that. But I think between 2 girls who qualified at 10k last outdoor Adams will be able to get them in in time to have a lower score.
For example, a rough guesstimate of placings.
Adams : 5-8-13-32-37= 96
GV: 14-17-22-25-30= 108
great race for grand valley. holowaty from ferris ran too
The GLIAC may have had less representation this year but there were some impressive performances. Congrats to Ngandu on the dominating victory. In addition, I am really impressed with Panning's performance. He was injured at the end last track and earlier this fall. He didn't race until the GLIAC meet, placing 5th, but finishes 2nd at Nationals. Woldemichael had an impressive performance as well, finishing 6th. GVSU had a strong overall showing, Adams was simply the best. SVSU should be a strong team next year and add a second top 10 team for the GLIAC.
GVSU should have another great season next fall ( in addition to this upcoming track season ). They lose Mach and Selner, but have panning and many others returning. What was Pannings injury? I'm out of the loop and knew he was injured but had no idea what.
Anybody know what happened to Fontana? Seemed to be the only one who really dropped the ball. Outsiders opinion. Maybe that's just how fit he was. Idk.
It was an Adams State sabotage.
Fontana ran as projected. He wasn’t on adams state’s top 7 last year and he finished right behind their 7th this year.

I'm curious as to why he transferred?
Fat scholarship. Coaching headache. Minimal production.
Expect MTU to bring it next year...They were very young this time around.

I can see it.
Thanks for answering Fontana question.
Svsu should be #2 gliac.
Will Wisconsin Parkside be in gliac next fall?

2018-2019 will be UW-Parkside's first year in the GLIAC.
I believe the Early Bird invite is this weekend
You can view entries for the GVSU meet Friday at www.directathletics.com. Go to upcoming meets and select the GVSU meet. GVSU has Panning, May, Fontana, Woldemichael, Visser, Mach and Bradley (medical RS for last year?) entered in the 5k. Holowaty also entered. Entries open until midnight tomorrow.

That's going to be nasty. How many go Sub 14:20?
James Ngandu also now entered. Conservatively I'll say 5-6 sub 14:20s but it could more. Ngandu should be sub 14:00 and maybe pull a few others there as well. Should be a strong race that qualifies quite a few for Nationals.
I'll even go as far as saying 7 from the gliac. These guys will be there to run fast, not race.

Good to see he's running. I heard some of the GV talking about working together to get qualifiers while they're fit from XC. James is pretty good about trying to work with people during these qualifying meets. I can see Panning knock on the door of 14:00, guy is fit. We'll see how it plays out. I'm sure we'll have at least 4 qualifiers from this race. 12th in the nation last year was 14:19.
1 Ngandu 13:57
2 Bradley 13:59
3 Panning 14:01
4 May 14:05
Woldemichael 14:18
Results are up on GVSU site. Fontana and Visser finish in the 14:40s. Mach did not compete. Also, GVSU FR Dennis Mbuta goes 1:51.06 in the 800m.
