What is a better time for track for a girl? A 5:30 mile or a 11:59 two mile?

I would say a 5:30 mile is better than 11:59 for two miles. I just got that from a race time predictor so it could be different for different people, depending if they're distance or speed oriented.
I mean in high school it's pretty even. Once a person gets older and stronger at distance their 12 minute 2 mile becomes a 5:45 mile. When I ran 16:40 for the 5k my mile was probably around 4:50.

In HS, I would say the 11:59 2 mile is slightly better or to put it more accurately slightly rarer. I have seen more girls who can do a 5:30 mile but can't break 12 for the 2mi. On the other hand, most girls in HS who can break 12 can also break 5:30. That's because in HS most people haven't fully developed their endurance yet.
In my daughter's league there were around 20 girls who could run under 12 for 2mi. Only 1 of them did not break 5:30 in a mile race, and that girl was probably capable.
Whereas there were about 35 who could run under 5:30 but 11 couldn't break 12. Of course some of those had much superior 800 times and only tried the 2mi once or twice.
Colin Sahlman runs 1:45 and Nico Young runs 1:47 in the 800m tonight at the Desert Heat Classic
