Fine one instance where I said I hate the Boston Marathon and I'll give you $1,000,000.
Secondly, that article does not change my opinion of Boston. I never said Boston wasn't a good race. I've never said people shouldn't run Boston. In fact, I'd encourage American runners or anyone else trying to make a name to run Boston because it is relatively speaking easier to do well and still has great name recognition.
It seems like in today's age people can't take criticism. I've watched Boston live on tv for probably the last 12 years. I really enjoy the race (I thought the tv coverage was pretty poor this year however as they need someone on the truck who knows something about marathoners) However, my criticism is the race isn't the of the quality it once was. That is a fact.
Now there are various reasons for this. But the main one is money. It's a fact that the top marathoners in the world want appearance money. Boston may have a tough course but if it is willing to pay the $$$ it will get whoever it wants.
As for scrapping appearance money, if Boston wanted to offer $500,000 for first then it also would get more people willing to show up but it had better still have a deep prize structure.
