...for the season. I ran a PR in my first and only 5K of the season, then ran a PR in the 10000 meters the following week. I had been having shin pain since december. By mid-may the pain was crazy. The trainer told me to cross train for a week or two. It's now 6 weeks later. I've been swimming, bicycling and lifting weights. It really sucks to cross train, I had been building up my 1K and 800m threshold runs with my pacing controled by my heart rate. My speed was increasing while staying at the same relative intensity. I hadn't started my anearobic training yet and fast interval training, which would have dropped my 5K time significantly. I was getting into great shape aerobically. Is it worth it to run in my conference meet at in a couple weeks? What do you think? My previous 5K PR was 16:04 in 2003. I ran 16:01 in my first spring 5K last month. My shins also aren't totally healed, so I wonder how much of a risk I am for getting a stress facture.
