Fresno is the armpit of CA, I would stay far far away. But if it is not an option move into the Clovis area
Well the job I want is in Fresno so yes I am stuck there... also any ideas for weekend trips.. how far away are decent camp grounds, beaches, etc..
I grew up in Clovis and would agree that that would be your best option of places to live in Fresno, or at least near the Clovis area. The area is much nicer and is not that bad compared to Fresno itself. The good part about the town is that it is in the middle of California and the coast is only 2 1/2 hours away and the mountains are only 1 hur away. Other than that there is not much to do. The town is growing however and there are a couple good clubs in fresno along with some country bars in Clovis.
Dude, please visit first. It is a crap whole. You are very close to americas best meth dens and failed small businesses.
You have a short 2.5 hr drive to the best mountains in the world but you'll have to get through some serious traffic to get to the beach.
You will be a short drive from the CA state XC championships. And los banos.
oh yeah, yosemite is about 1 1/2 hours away
how is the running in the city? Are there any decent mid distance-distance clubs to workout out with.. etc..

The best running is in the fothills to the north of Fresno or at Woodward Park. The running club is called the Sierra Challenge Express. Visit Sierra Running C. running store as soon as possible for all the details on the running scene.
Don't listen to most posts, they don't live here to really know everything there is to know about Fresno, yeah we have a bad reputation, but things are really changing around here and it's not that bad, like dpb said, Sierra Challenge is your connection to distance running in the area, there are nice trails to run on about 15 min. north of fresno but most run at woodward park. If you are looking for training partners, maybe you can contact some Fresno State alumns.
you still have yet to say anything good about fresno. Please let us know. I saw some good raves there. And I assume the living is cheap. Plus good speed training running from car jackers. Never have to worry about training for hot weather races.
