For a guy who is too slow/awkward/unglamorous to run the mile/1500, he seems to be doing pretty well.

Hunter would have to have run a low 3:36 to be equal. Moreover, that he's not in high school is a pretty big deal. GF ran 3:55 and won NCAAs as a frosh and didn't get nearly the hype Webb did. Yes, Hunter is doing well.
1) if you are begging for the 4/10ths that the exact decimal equivalent represents, consider yourself granted that, along with the "Nitpicker of the Day" award
2) Hunter still runs under his High School coach, but yeah it's his job. Webb had to show up to class 'n stuff.
GF never improved much after the 3:55, yet he was considered the Second Coming on this board many years after, in a way Hunter never has. It helped that GF had that smooth pretty stride.
3) Yes Alan Webb was more talented, but Andrew Hunter has been better coached, we'll see if the outcome is anything like that of Webb later...
excuse my ignorance, but who is GF?

Not quite. Sadder was the post calling attention to Cam Levins's Twitter post trying to sell his plane tickets to Rio.
For the other guy, GF is HS/early college superstar German Fernandez. Never panned out.
3:36 is more like 3:54

GF is now Grant Fisher.

You really nailed my personality as annoying nitpicker, so I'll cede you the 4/10 of a second.
Having it be your job does make a difference. Hunter ran this time in like his 15th professional race. How many shots did Webb get? 2?
Hunter is super well coached, and doesn't have the raw talent that Webb did. Also, Hunter and co seem smart enough to not recklessly push the envelope for a few months of insane performances. Would Webb have ever run 3:46 or 3:30 had he not done that? I'm not sure.
This isn't really relevant, but Hunter makes it easy on his fans. He's so consistent. Every so often he punches up, but he's never really had a bad race. His professional races have been something like 3:57, 3:59, 7:51, 3:56, rustbuster 3:42 1500, 3:38, 3:40 in a slow race, 11th at USAs, 8:14 3k with a 53 last lap, 3:56, 3:36. No 4:10 miles or off the back races, just consistently good performances.
In all honesty, that trait might be why he doesn't get the Webblike or Fernandez-like adoration among the LRC peanut gallery. With them, you could strike gold every so often, but got a lot of bad performances. With Hunter, you know you're going to get a solid performance, with a good one every now and then. Maybe less exciting, but probably way more fulfilling and possibly ultimately more successful.
Did I miss the memo that said we're supposed to start referring to him as "Andrew" Hunter instead of Drew? I understand Drew is short for Andrew, but I had never seen him referred to as Andrew and now have seen it in two or three recent threads.
You didn't get a lot of bad performances from GF or Webb age 19. They got more adoration because they are / were better at a younger age.
Webb, ran 3:53.4 @ 18 years, 4 months.
GF ran 3:55.0i at like 18 years 5 months
Hunter has run in the same ball park at 19 years, 10 months.

Very fair assessment. With this thread I am trying to bring to light the fact that, while not hitting the home runs that AW and GF did, Hunter is definitely in the same ballpark.
I think we are seeing a new era of carefully-progressed young pro runners, led initially by Evan Jager (overcoming his early injury woes) then by Ajee Wilson, including now Hunter, and possibly Alexa Efraimson.
Tom Byers ran 3:37 twice at 19y71d, 19y90d. Won the US National title in both the Senior and Junior in the same year. That's extra badass.
To the guy who asked about "Andrew v. Drew": He still goes by Drew, but his name is always Andrew in race results.

3:36 is 3:53.28. What Webb ran is equal to 3:36.14 in the 1500, what Hunter ran is equal to 3:54.11 in the mile

Not quite equal but it's still a great run from Hunter.
A mile tends to be more difficult than the 1.08 rule of thumb suggests, with many not being able to get close to their 1500m 'mile equivalent' conversion in a real one mile race. Alan Webb could have run 3:35 I'd bet.

It was said that AW came through 1500 in 3:38.3 in his 3:53 mile race. So how are you getting these values. If the race was 100m shorter that day, I highly doubt he would have run over a second faster
