$$ here says he folds in the last 100m...
I watched and spoke with him a moment at his last workout at UW a few days ago. Though he did not directly say it, this is basically his goodbye race. It's been a sweet ride for him.

He WILL make it through the rounds and get onto that worlds team NO PROBLEM, and prove all of the craven milk-drinking neck-bearded BASEMENT-DWELLING TROGLODYTES of Letsrun wrong.

+2, because +1 isn't enough to thoroughly convey my agreement.

The only way he can beat Murphy and Brazier will be if he is indeed in great shape, and Murphy is beat up from doubling in the 1500 and Brazier somehow becomes too fatigued from the rounds. But it's possible Nick may make the team. Personally I'm rooting for the young / new guys. If Berian is out, then some young guy to step it up and join Brazier and Murphy.
No! I want the old guard to stay strong, I want the old men, the ED WITLOCKS, the BERNARD LAGATS to make the teams, I don't want no fresh blooded pubescents stealing the spotlight!!
What ever happened to Brandon Johnson? He seemed nice.
If nick makes the final he will make the team. The only way nick doesn't make the team is if he doesn't make the final. His hardest race will be the first round. But nick as we well know gets better with every round and will essentially get fitter.

Nick always arrives at USAs with at least one sub 4 mile under his belt and at least a few 800m races during his build up to nationals. He's used to being the best miler in the field at USAs, hence him handling the rounds better than most.
This year, he's far from any of his usual fitness indicators, including his race weight of 162. He's carrying an injury, which if you've ever raced with one, you know it's a confidence killing when you're more worried about reinjurung than focused on racing. It's unavoidable.
It's his swan song, let him enjoy it. He's been a great competitor over the years and sure as hell got the most out of himself, more than anyone would have ever predicted. 1:42.9, 5th in the Olympics, worlds silver, six US titles, a slew of 1:43 - 1:44 times in one of the most competitive events on the planet, up against some seriously gifted athletes. Let's face it, world class 800m runners are freaking awesome athletes, and Nick, with a less than ideal build for the event, was one of the best for a decade.
It is supposed to be 108 degrees tomorrow in Sacramento when Nick runs in the 1st round of the 800. He will be lucky to make 2 laps around the track!
i honestly think the 108 degree heat is a boon to symmonds. some young pups with fast times are going to blow up from it. symmonds is clearly not in the best shape of his life, but he still has the killer instinct in championship races that won him a half dozen us titles. i highly doubt the heat will throw him off his game.
I really like Nick's heat draw. No Murphy, no Brazier, No Harris. His best competition in his heat is Drew Windle, Nick's training partner (or not anymore, I'm not sure, it says he's listed unattached); you can expect they'll work together.

You got me there....
OP I second your notion, I have been believing this for the last month
Reijurung sux
I'll miss Nick and the trolls he brings out to the boards. He at least made it interesting. Most of our pros have milquetoast personalities and give horrible sound bites.
I think Nick will miss and be unable to recreate the spotlight in his next chapter as well. He should have tried to drag it out a couple more years.
Well...It was a fun ride while it lasted. Symmonds ran 1:51, good enough for DFL.
