Yep. 5 minute recovery is a lot for track repeats, let alone slightly above conversational pace. What are you recovering from?

If you are not training for a race, but for general fitness, or to be a boxer, you could make it interesting by throwing in a mix of push ups, burpees, planks, etc in the five minutes resting times. It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

I'm training to win state xc...

Okay, so given the number of people who have told you that this is a bad workout and has no point in addition to refuting your other points to which you respond by repeating the same nonsense over and over again I can only assume that what you would like me to tell you is, "OH MY GOSH!!!! This is the most fabulous workout I have ever seen in my life! Did you get this workout straight from Bill Bowerman from beyond the grave? Forget winning your state's cross country meet, you're going to win nationals thanks to this workout!" So fine, I like making people happy, OH MY GOSH!!!! This is the most fabulous workout I have ever seen in my life! Did you get this workout straight from Bill Bowerman from beyond the grave? Forget winning your state's cross country meet, you're going to win nationals thanks to this workout! But assuming you're just a little bit of an egomaniac and can't admit when you're wrong but would still like legitimate feedback, my previous comment on your workout was not legitimate in case you couldn't tell, I'll give that to you to. "Slightly faster than conversational" may be an acceptable term at your school, we use similar terms at mine, but only to discuss tempo pace runs, not easy runs. Since you're in high school you are not going faster than 6:00 and only a little faster than conversational, therefore, three sets of 3-4 mile tempos is NOT a good recovery, one of those would be as far as any coach I have ever had has prescribed for a whole day's workout, and 5-10 minutes is not enough time to recover. I think you are meaning to say that you would like to run these around marathon pace, which Jack Daniels has even stated to be just the fast end of easy pace and essentially only a confidence booster for marathon athletes, therefore useless for a high school 5k guy. Finally, there really isn't anything wrong with you doing passive stretches. Some studies have been done on their effect on how fast you can run after doing them, but the results have gone both ways. However, due to the lack of ANY conclusive evidence, articles are all you could be citing, so yes they are acceptable sources and this is another great example of you being an egomaniac. Good luck!
