I backed into my neighbor's car a few weeks ago and put a few small dents, scratches into his door.
The guy took it in for an estimate an says it will costs $600 to fix. I'm not worried about the damage to my car as there really is none. I have NY insurance and never have filed a claim.
It's a no fault state but I think that only applies to injuries.
So I assume no deductible applies here because I'm not fixing anything on my car right? So my options are to pay the $600 out of pocket or to let the insurance handle it and pay nothing, right?
I'm a bit worried about my insurance going up but only pay $285 every 6 months. It would have to go up a lot to equal the $600 out of pocket expenses. It says my accident free discount is $56 every 6 months so I assume this would disappear, but would my insurance go up above this?
I found this article online that says:
"For example, State Farm increases premiums after an accident that costs the company $750 or more. But if you have been accident-free with the company for at least nine years, you get a reprieve."
This is under $750 so that's me. I haven't been at fault in an accident for 9 years but have moved around but always been with a state farm agent but don't know if different states count.
So the question is should I let the insurance handle it? I assume I should but want to make sure.
