The purpose is to get the best representation to the next level. The system worked. Why would anyone want tne competition eliminated for something like this. If I was a competitor I would petition to keep him in. Beating the competition should be the goal.
Someone cannot be dq'ed for a uniform violation. It is a sportsmanship rule enforced from the NCAA office in form of a sanction of the coach.
He checked in esrlier with his bib.
He did not have it at the stsrt line. The NEW rules do not allow a DQ until a race has been stsrted. That's where the official screwed up in not letting him compete. If he was DQ for uniform violation then that is incorrect.
As the response to the protest stated the officials applied old rule to the DQ.
