I'm again going to point out the fact no-one has ever done better than 2:32 on this course after years, 2:50 for women

so forget theories about how "not hard" it is, either break 2:30/2:50 on it or assume the data is correct, it's significantly harder than a flat course

I'm sure she will break 3:00 on a much more decent course in reasonable weather

not sure why people are running marathons in May anyway, you'll never PR

I wonder what is on her schedule, I mean you can only do so many marathons a year without paying a price in performance/recovery

isn't Deena Kastor only 44?

can't speak for 60 yet but there is a world of difference running at 44 vs 50

the wheels really seem to come off after 48 or so

Deena did 2:28 at age 42 two years ago but she is staying far away from full marathons since, perhaps until the next age group

she did a half in 1:16 last month

best wishes to her to keep running, 95% age-group record is amazing

It is typically among the top qualifying races for Boston each year percentage wise (26% and 22% BQ last two years). It is a pretty fast course. alright well personally I'm waiting to see if she runs another full in the fall and how she does, until then I am discounting this, I am sure she can do much closer to 3:00 if not break it

she wasn't running Sugarloaf for time, she was running it with and to support her friend Michael Westphal who has Parkinsons - she went to high school with him

it was to raise money for Michael J. Fox foundation

Zola Budd (V50) ran the Stirling Marathon over the weekend finishing in 3:12:24 and Liz McColgan (V50) ran 3:18:32 in the same race. Joanies time was fine

and again Joan's was only running with someone with Parkinsons to support them, not for time, it was reported before the race ever happened

this is like someone running a two hour half marathon as a pacer and then saying "gee they are slow" when looking at the finishing results and nothing else

For hobby-jogger perspective that's 1:12:33 under her BQ time.

How many other folks worldwide can go that far under... on what appears to be a training run with friends?

(Ed's 2:54 at age 73 was 1:30 under)

Boston is fun, great and historical but it is point-to-point and the elevation loss is too excessive

so she could have a Boston record and a PR but it wouldn't be an internationally recognized record

Ran in with her in a 5 k a couple of years ago. After finishing the race she turned around and ran out on the course to run other folks in. Warm, intelligent, good conversationalist... and an athletic drive you could still feel...

Pretty impressive. I have a house up there, there's modest elevation and its quite hilly. And she's a beast of a runner. I was at the 84 Olympics in LA when she won her gold medal, nothing quite like it.
