Craig Virgin once said to me over the phone when explaining why he deserves to get paid for speaking engagements, "I ran my butt off."
( Actually he used a French word in there. )
That did run pretty close to home for me because I always had a butt and was proud of it. Look at the Kenyans and Ethiopians. That is the price one must pay to be great. Heck Matt Centrowitz and "Rudolph" Rupp look like White Kenyans. Have you ever noticed how the top distance runners also seem to have tiny heads? It's true...it's better to be carrying 5 1/2 pounds than the full 6 pounds. It is a gift from God to have a tiny head.
We cannot always make our butts smaller but if you starve yourself and run 120 mpw for a few years you might have a chance!
Then you probably will also not run for the rest of your life...

If that's true then you are the only one on this thread to have a hope to run in the Olympic Trials.
If one is 5-7 he must get down to about 135 to have a chance. Women would have to be about 120 or maybe even less. We are talking marathon here but even the 5K/10K would be similar.
800/1500 guys can be slightly heavier and it helps to be taller in those events but skinny still wins out. 6-0 should probably be 155-160 for the 1500.
What say you?

I made it to the Olympic Trials in the marathon at 5'5" and 105 pounds (female). I have a small bone structure but I was still mighty skinny.

Thank you for commenting on the above. I'm betting that Jordan Hasay has is of a similar height and weight.

So...no more big monsters like Chris Solinsky kicking butt in the 5 & 10? Solinski motivated me to train hard - seeing a huge, muscular guy like that who was very competitive at the world level against the sea of dimuinitivesðŸ‘. I get tired of seeing the same old cookie cutter 5-3, 120 lb dimuinitive runners dominanting the 5 & 10 distances. Solinski was great at beating some of those flyweights at their own game. A man that size going sub-13 & sub-27...amazing!!! Bring on some more big dudes! ðŸ‘

Yep, all true. I'm just graduating college and I have a legit shot at the 2020 marathon trials. I'd like to get the A standard by then, but I think the B is within reach now.
We need age, event and gender here too.
