Unfortunately Jenkins isn't in the same heat as Centro and Mo.

Jenkins should be the favorite for heat 2. I am thinking 3:36 for the win.
The top 2 heats in the men's 1500 are supposedly even. They always do that for Oxy. So Jenkins heat -w hich has no Olympic gold medallists in it - is supposedly event to the other heat which has the Olympic gold medallist and the 9th fastest 1500 runner in history.
I lied on the previous page. I'm also excited to see Drew H, German F, the 800s, Rowbury, Simpson.
We've received pacing information. We've added it to our preview.

Rojo, just like your policy with GF, it seems like recently you've been treating Drew H the same. Is that deliberate, to let him prove himself as a pro before he gets attention, or am I just too much of a fanboy?
no kidding! Does anyone know how much tickets are this year?

I'm certain I read it was $10 general admission, and $5 with student ID. However, I agree I can't find that now, so that may indicate that they are raising the admission prices...
found it. yes $10 for gen admission. $5 for student/USATF memberhttp://www.usatf.org/News/USATF-Distance-Classic-features-marquee-matchups,-.aspx

Our sport is a joke. Two Olympic champions are 'racing' each other in a matchup that should be on the DL circuit. Instead, both are too lazy to fly to Shanghai or Doha and instead are doing it in the middle of the night in front of 30 people.
But then again, the more I think about it. it's really not a race. It's practice so it makes sense.
Personally, I don't think it should be broadcast at all. They don't broadcast workouts in horse racing. You just pick up the Daily Racing form and they list the results.
Same thing here. I mean honestly, you dont need to know what happens in a race. Just give me the 400 splits and maybe the last 200 and I have a great idea as to what happened. I'll wake up tmw and read the Letsrun recap.
The stadium will be smaller (I think) than a typical DL event, but this is a cool way for locals to see two huge names. Think of the parents who can't afford to fly to a DL event being able to get into the meet. (tugs on heart strings)

Too bad most of us aren't gonna see it without paying $70. Does this mean that we can't watch the Prefontaine classic on TV, and only on this package? Cause I watch that mean on NBCSN every year and I'm gonna be pissed if I have to pay ever more than what I pay for cable to watch that.

I've never paid. I've just walked in through the campus. Stood on the infield and watched races. No troll. Has there ever been "tickets" for this meet?

Letsrunners for years complain about the lack of good summer track meets in the US, then when we get a good race, they shjt on it and say it should be held across the Pacific Ocean. LOLZ. MAGA!

the preview makes it sound like you only get the 1 meet for the $69. you get the entire season and if you miss something (like Thus night some of those races will be going off too late for me) you can watch the total rebroadcast later.
Price is still ridiculous.
This is why track and field will never get popular with the mass markets again.

What what does everyone think about this? Who are you picking and why??? (I don't have twitter so I can't see the results of the poll). Super tough call, but I'll go with Centro because it's his home event and it's hard to see Farah taking it from the gun, which would be his best chance IMO. I also think it's more likely that Centro will have the edge speed-wise in early season form. Interested to hear what you all think!
Jenkins will win out of Heat 2. 3:35 low

Running fanatics will pay out, but you won't get a casual viewer to be flipping channels and wind up watching a race and then get into it.

We should have done our own poll. I didn't know you had to be a twitter person to vote.
The results so far are 54% centro, 46% Farah with over 400 votes.
I really think Centro would beat him in most 1500s unless it was REALLY fast. Farah is 2-0 against Centro lifetime (both in Monaco).
But there is no point in predicting this as it's all going to come down to who is in shape this early.
Speaking of Centro, I was talking to a person out in LA who told me Centrow as sporting an amazing mustache. Sadly, it was shaved today as it's gone. I'll give $10 to anyone with a photo of it - assuming I am given rights to the photo so I can use it.
Who's going? I've gone the last two years and will be there tonight. It's an amazing price if you can make it. $10/5 student or USATF $ with no parking fees. Although some will have to fight the notorious LA traffic to get there.
As for pricing of the TV package, a reference point is the NFL Sunday ticket. It is $300 for the season if you are not a new subscriber or want to spend countless hours haggling with the cable company.
I do agree with others that USATF or NBC should sell the rights/show the meets during late and early TV filler times. The NFL network does a great job of featuring shows such as the 10 greatest running backs of all time. NBC and USATF should feature shows such as "The Greatest Olympic 1500 Finals" with race footage and background interviews.
