Yes. We call him the king due to his rings, not his times. The other guys you mentioned don't have enough rings to cover one hand. Cheserek has enough to cover two and some toes. Just stop. You would have hated MJ in the 90s and you know it.
Are you really comparing Cheserek to MJ? Cheserek won a bunch of titles running against college runners with less talent instead of moving up to face real competition. How many titles do you suppose Bekele or Kipchoge could have won running in the NCAA for 4 years?
MJ = Bekele
Christian Laettner = Cheserek
Only statistic that matters:
NCAA titles
Cheserek - 17
Knight - 0
Unless Knight works on his sprint, throwing, and jumping technique and somehow gets more crowns, then any discussion will be meaningless. One mid-season 5k doesn't determine "King" status.

This guy has the titles to prove it. He is the greatest collegiate runner of all time. No question
Twenty-something Kenyan competing in the US with PRs over 13 and over 28. He's only a story because he went the NCAA route and not pro.
...and even in NCAA, I'm not sure how he is better than Rono, Ryun, Lalang...

Laetner is white.

I'd compare Cheserek to Lebron, focusing on the late season, very consistent, four year domination. Knight would be Steph Curry, regularly competing and winning with consistent improvement. Considering Cheserek is in a block of hard training i'm going to say it's going to come down to the NCAA's.
Oh stop it.

13:24 and rocked by Knight. Can we put to rest this "King Cheserek" junk finally?
Cheserek does not get the recognition he deserves. I believe he has won 17 NCAA titles. Who else has even won ten? Talk about racism...

You have seen videos/pictures of Knight before, right?

...and you do know that Cheserek is nowhere to be found in NCAA top 10 performers in 1500, 5000 or 10000.
I'll give you th fact that he holds the indoor mile record, but you would expect the GOAT to at least have a top 10 time.

Can you even run his last lap time?
Why do you even care?
If he got dropped by 7 seconds I assume chesereks last lap was around 61-62, so it is more than likely that the previous poster can run that fast for one lap because that is a very easy 400 time to hit with no training at all.
You're a moron - I would bet that 75% of the posters on this website couldn't drop a 61 right now.

Are you referring to cheserek as the man of a thousand excuses? Because every time he loses, he seems to give a post race interview along the lines of "I guess my opponent just beat me today, he ran a great race."
Can I watch that race somewhere?

More like:
"I let him win" after he kicked hard at NCAA indoor
"My hamstring was hurting and I considered dropping out" after coming in third at NCAA XC

He skipped Penn because he was getting over an injury. He is still getting over the injury.
Disclaimer: not a Ches fan, could care less. But you gotta get your facts strait, man!
Couldn't care less, not COULD.

Agreed. He is not the king- where did that stupid term even come from? There are a few other collegiate runners obviously as just good if not better then him depending on the day, like Justyn, etc.
...I think the discussion should be...who's got more upside? (I hate to say this because it's overused in sports) and who will have a better pro career? Who would you bank on long term?
1. Ches - with all his astonishing accolades has shown he can race with the best of them and compete at a high level. He knows how to win--period. 17 NCAA titles is jaw dropping. Has he been over trained? over raced? over exposed?
2. Knight - maybe just as talented? down to earth and approachable. More room to grow as an athlete? kid trains in mf'n Central NY!
Steeple might have have been a good event for him, but a bit late to try to learn.
Early 30's is certainly not too late for someone to learn something new!
Ches is the past, Knight is the future. Plain and simple. If you can't see that, take off the duck goggles.
