The day before a race is it a bad idea to run 8 to 10 miles easy or is 5 miles with 4 100s in the middle better? I am 44. It's a low key race but I haven't raced in a while.

Depending on how much mileage you have been doing, the 5 miles with some 100s is almost certainly a better bet, particularly if you haven't raced in a while.
