I had what I thought was calcaneal bursitis but what a PT thinks is in fact a bone bruise. There is a specific spot below where my Achilles attaches to the bone but above the part where the heel turns the corner to the sole of the foot (Around the fatty pad or distal Achilles) that hurts when pressed. I was wearing orthotics and took them all out of my shoes, as well as the shoe inserts, and it felt better without the pressure. the podiatrist said I could try to run as it was almost certainly not a fracture. So I run without orthotics and without the sock liner of the shoe doing some easy miles 2 days in a row and also strides barefoot.
It felt good and I kept on with ice and exercises. Today I tried to warmup with strides and then some faster work. I did a threshold rep of 3:00 (I had done 2 the day before without a problem) and it was uncomfortable. Then I tried a stride in spikes and it started to bother me, so I stopped before it escalated.
How on earth can I get rid of this? I simply do not have any more time to waste. I have seen 6 physical therapists and a podiatrist, have used all the ice in the freezer, and didn't run for 3 weeks before starting up. The not running didn't help; taking the crap out of shoes did. I am convinced the time not running did not heel it.
My questions:
1. How can I get rid of the pain?
2. How long does a bone bruise take to heel?
3. Is there ANYTHING, anything at all save something illegal, that I can do to heel this VERY quickly?
Please, I really appreciate the help. I trained as hard as I could for the track racing season and am on the verge of missing it entirely unless this is resolved. Please, if anything has worked for you, share your experience.
