A few decades ago I ran a race around green lake in Seattle every week for 10 weeks. There was always competition, I wore racing shoes and ran hard, except one week I ran barefoot in my training and the race. This particular race was 30 seconds faster than the fastest of the others, about 10 seconds per mile. There were some little rocks at various places, so I wore shoes again for the last 3 races.
I trained and raced many times on the track before and after this with always the same results. Barefoot is the fastest, and shoes are slower.
