yeah.... i found myself in a similar position towards the end of high school, i just naturally figured i wouldnt ever drink. but when beer started becoming commonplace at all the parties, i figured why not give it a shot, if nearly the whole population drinks it it isnt gonna kill me to try some in moderation at first, then get plastered if i want to. i decided to go ahead and drink and i loved it, im not an alcoholic or anything, but i wouldnt say i pass up many chances to drink. im now a junior in college, running at an ivy, and my times keep improving. i tend to get smashed every saturday, so waking up still drunk for sunday runs is nice. it hasnt effected my schoolwork at all, ive got a 3.0 and im proud of it (ive never been a 4.0 student). there are kids on campus that dont drink, and thats ok, but to enjoy the college experience you really need to drink. just be smart about it, and you sound like your probably at least pretty book smart, so just dont over do it, or make dumb decisions. even when you drunk you still can think stuff through. (hell i did o-chem problem set hammered and got a 95). it wont f*** up your running either, unless it gets out of hand. i dont know any statistics on the issue, but not everyone who enjoys a drink is an alcoholic, and you wont become either. good luck and let us know how the party went. GOD I WANT A BEER NOW.
