my take on it is they just mis-matched their best runners, and it was a level of competition where there was a wide wide range of quality. so that made it look super dramatic, whereas at a higher more consistent level it would have never happened. Anybody know more details?
sorry, forgot to quote

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVhjAXEyjMIThat must be the most incredible come-from-behind win in track history. If it's not, please tell me what is.
The male track announcers were babbling like girls.

Back in the day this was it. Couldn't go into a running shoe store in the 80s and not see a poster of this finish, with Decker gritting out the win and the Russian face planting and eating track.

I didn't remember who won this and actually jumped up and cheered.
Even though Christin Worth-Thomas came in fourth place and missed out on the Olympics she ran a race that most don't have the courage to attempt, for this she stands above many who fail to dream big even though the risks of blowing up are greater. She isn't a pretty runner style wise, but her effort level makes other runners look tame. She seems to be tapping into that rare emotional state of running on "Pure Hate" where few women or men attempt to go.

Confusing post of the week award?
Sarcasm. I mean that an inspiring race is an inspiring race. RE: "...male races - great for me, but not so great for my female runners." Why would they not be inspired my male races and why would you not be inspired by female races? I have blonde hair, but I'd be screwed if I needed to get that specific with finding inspiration, as already demonstrated by a certain video posted here.

I see where you are coming from, but you are way overthinking the situation.

They would be. Do they enjoy watching male races? Sure. Would I lose their attention and some of their respect if I only showed male races? Heck yeah.

Never said anything to imply that.

Except nobody cares about hair color. Gender is significantly more important. My girls constantly talk about current female high school phenomes, your classics like Hasay/Cain and that's about it. You'll never hear them talk about Nick Symmonds or Galen Rupp because that's not who they relate to and idolize.
Don't know if there is a video available but the pictures tell the story. Search for Alicia Follmar from Stanford at the 2008 Penn Relays DMR.
