For the record, he did recruit Bulmer. And convinced Domanic, Gilley, and Tobin to stay despite the coaching change not to mention led them to quality careers thus far. Check your facts
My "source" says otherwise. My "source" says not only did Vanhoy not recruit those guys, he did not recruit Ian Carter or Seumas O'Reilly (who ran ~9:06 in high school for 2 miles). My "source" says those guys were recruited by Gavin Kennedy who is now at Wisconsin. Some say Vanhoy reputedly has a history of walking into one good situation after another.
Gilley and Domanic both ran about 8:56 (2m) and 4:07 (1m) in high school. Tobin ran 3:45 (1500m) in high school and 3:59 (1m) as a Frosh at Ole Miss, and has not broken 4:00 since.
Bulmer was in Coach O'Neal's pipeline trying to get eligible before Vanhoy showed up at Ole Miss.
I heard those guys actually tried to back out of their commits, but O'Neal wouldn't release them. It ended up working out well for the Rebs, but not a classy move by O'Neal. Kennedy was the one those guys were going to Oxford for.
How long does Vanhoy stay in Oxford? With his recent success he should be front runner for any major program with a distance opening.
But unless it's a head coach why would he leave? SEC can surely pay as much as any major conference and he's got a studly team.
Agreed. Kennedy drew talent to Oxford, MS.
Just keep on poaching and he is making $90k/year already.
One thing no one is talking about here is the phenomenal facilities at Ole Miss. It's a glamorous life being a student athlete there. That's going to get people excited to go there more than other big programs that don't necessarily have the SEC football money.
At Ole Miss, the track team and football team share most of the facilities, where other sports are relegated to another building that isn't nearly as nice.
