Yeah, but they would also have a "turbo-charger" effect to negate that.

You're an idiot if you think that nostril diameter will deliver more air to the lungs.
When you inhale, you get one lungfull of air. No more. Of that one lungfull very little of it binds with hemoglobin. Think of it this way. You cannot fill a glass with more than one glass of water.

So would nostril size and lung size be related then?

Does anyone know the answer to this??
I Google Image searched some of the world class white distance runners of the past to check on the size of their nostrils, and certainly none of them suffered from tiny nostrils (and no signs of any boogies blocking the airways either).
But I was more struck by the size of their mouths. I'm sure there must be a connection there, and it does seem logical - if larger nostrils are a benefit then surely bigger mouths are even more advantageous.
Look at this image of Jim Ryun for example :

I hope we haven't started a new performance enhancing method, with elite runners heading straight to cosmetic surgery clinics to widen their nostrils and mouths.

I wonder if usatf would determine that to be legal or illegal

None of these have been photoshopped.

I noticed that Kate Grace wore a strip on her nose during the 800 meter final at the Olympics. Maybe it was a breathe right strip?
Then you wonder if the size of your mouth does confer an advantage, perhaps missing a tooth or two could be the difference between Gold and Silver? Perhaps runners will start having their teeth removed just as swimmers shave their body hair just for the fractions of a second it might shave off their PBs?

Why didn't he have teeth?
What if your whole face was just a mouth? Advantage?

You would still need eyes to see in front of you and to find the track.

Only the nose, knows.

Are you that much of a moran? It's how readily it fills, not whether it ultimately fills.
What fills easier an open vase or a water bottle?

Before tetanus vaccines were widespread Africans knocked out the two lower teeth so that you could be fed through a straw if lockjaw set in.

My god youre an idiot. The size of the brochial tubes is a "bottleneck" in the respratory system. Nostrils an mouth do not inhibit air flow to the lungs.

So true...lol
It's only a matter of time before someone develops nostril and mouth size to face ratio tables to measure distance running potential.

You sorry moran. An extra bottleneck at the external opening limits it more.
Just as having narrower " brochial" tubes would bottleneck that end even more.
That's why Wiggo has stuff smuggled to him. To limit the bottleneck effect.
