And while we're at it, the Nikon 50mm 1.8D prime (fixed length) lens, with a miniscule 52mm thread diameter, deserves a mention. At around $130 it is the best deal in photography. Super sharp, buttery bokeh, with a wide range of applications. I would recommend this lens to Mark or anyone new to photography. Shooting with a prime lens stretches your mind (and legs) forcing you to think about perspective, stance, working with natural light. Some of the all time greats shot solely with a 50mm prime.
Yes, I have a Nikon 50mm 1.4 and it's great. I didn't mean to come off with a "penis size" kind of argument - my apologies. Don't do much architectural work, other than some magazine stuff for Interiors magazine. I love primes - don't get me wrong. However when doing weddings I tend to go for fast 2.8 zooms over primes to get a little focal length variability during fast paced-situations, unless it's the portrait-gathering part of a wedding.
