My dad told me to yell f*#k-off to anyone who pushed me in a race, three days later I did exactly that to a Dutch guy. He confronted me after the race and it was really embarrassing. He was a really nice guy.
I ran track one time with friends last year, I had to go to the bathroom and didn't want to go on the side of the track as we were at a highschool. My friend told me he normally hops the fences and goes in the woods. I hopped the fence, tripped and fell in a ditch and severely f'd my ankle up. I was out for months after that.

My running coach in college once told me to meet with his wife (our assistant coach) for a healing session. He said, "you're injured and she's got healing powers. I've seen it." - Scott Simmons on his wife Petra
I was not healed, and that guy and his wife are crazy quacks! He should not be coaching anyone!
Coach told me not to go hard if no one is near me. But prefontaine is my idol so I didnt listen.
Breathe in through your nose.
I thought this was going to go in a different direction.

Being told to stop running, as I'll "ruin my knees"-- from multiple out-of-shape people, many of whom with knees ruined by something other than running.
I was an NCAA D1 qualifier and conference medalist in the 800m. Extended family member was a D1 football lineman. He told me to be able to dress for practice with the team after summer, he had to run an 800m under 2:50, take a break and run another under 3:00. (I was always skeptical of those times but that's beside the point). He would frequently tell me that the best way to train for the 800m was to run 2 miles all out every day and he would claim to know what he was talking about because he was a D1 athlete too and had to run those 800s once a year.
lengthen your stride, when they really just mean run faster.

+1. I heard that one over 30 years ago. My knees and hips are the healthiest part of my body. My ankles are another story.
"All fast runners do their easy days b/w 6:00-6:10/mile"
...that's D1 coaching for ya
Check the LetsRun MB for training advice.
carbo-load the night before races. It always made me feel lethargic.
"Run like the wind."
So I ended up crashing into the timing tent and causing a huge ruckus.
Coach told me to chase my dreams but wasnt specific on what kind of dream. Long story short I ended up with a 4th degree sexual assault charge.
Wear minimalist running shoes...

"It's better to breath through your nose while you run"
Not even joking. Someone told me this once.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
