LSU is still not safe with its 9:31.66
Mid Tenn State could improve on that today.
9:31.00 will probably be good enough to make NCAA this year however
I do feel bad for anybody trying to qualify on a non trampoline banked 200m track.
Not when they give you 7+ seconds for doing so.
I am a huge Villanova fan and good for those three teams that make it from there. The rules and conversions are what they are.
But that conversion will be changed in short order I believe. Just like the altitude adjustment that goes to CU and other adjusted runners who are there at altitude for over 7 months a year for years.
Crazy that Samford could qualify on the women's side with the conversion.
Does anyone know what happened to Texas at Alex short? Also Virgina at JDL? Neither team finished.
Who could still creep up in the top 12.
Virginia Tech (10th now), Virginia and Syracuse will be competing against each other at the ACC. The winner went 9:34 at ACC last year. Both Virginia and Syracuse are out of the top 12 right now and they both have the credentials to qualify. Virginia Tech is on the bubble and would more than likely like to secure their spot in the top 12. That will be a race to watch.
UTEP (ranked 9th now) will be going against Mid Tenn State later today at Conference USA. UTEP would surely like to secure their spot by going sub 9:30 and Mid Tenn State (ranked 15th now) would like to get a qualifier. That should be a good race.
Last year at Big East, Georgetown (ranked 11th now) won in 9:28.9 against Villanova (ranked 6th now). Georgetown would certainly like to be a bit higher in the standings. The Big East will also be interesting to watch.
Finally, Oregon ran sub 9:30 at MPSF to secure their spot for NCAA. There are a slew of good teams in the MPSF? That will also be a race to watch.
It all starts with Conference USA in a few hours.
I doubt Gtown gets a Q'er or lower mark at Big East. Nova has theirs and I do not see them going all out to TT another mark, especially since their anchor Logan Wetzel just ran his third race in over a year.
He is immensely talented, he went 4:14 to open this year after missing a year with a surgery, 4:09 next effort and then 4:01.2 today 1600 on flat track. I am a bit shocked at how quick he is gaining fitness which just shows how huge his talent is. He ran 1:49 and anchored a DMR in 4:04 I believe in HS?
He had opened at 4:02 mile last year as a frosh and was injured right after.
Ok, Mid Tenn State never tried to get the qualifier. Both UTEP and Mid Tenn State range 10:03 at Conference USA.
Good for LSU.
Could argue the Virginia Tech didn't run their best lineup during their race so could they could drop more if needed or possibly at NCAA's if they make it

I think it would be smart for Nova to not run the horses in DMR at Big East; why help Georgetown?? If Malone comes back that could be one hell of a DMR
That Wetzel kid is going to be really, really good if he can stay healthy.
I was on the same flight out of Chicago as the Stanford kids last night
Anyone know what happened to UCLA and the DNF?

If their top 400 runner was healthy they would have knocked a second and a half off that time.

But yes, the conversion is pretty ridiculous

....
The ACC is being held at Norte Dame, hence it could lead to a fast time. If you think of it, if Syracuse and Virginia both go sub 9:31, it puts Virginia Tech in 12th spot (on the bubble), so all three teams could have a go at it.
Of course, I was completely wrong about UTEP and Mid Tenn State at Conference USA (they both ran 10:03). MId Tenn State were completely focussed on winning the team championship. Their top guys tripled and quadrupled. They certainly were not looking for a fast DMR time. They did win the team championship however.
I say no way Virginia runs a qualifier at ACC's. they're top 400 guy has run 49 and their top 800 time is 1:51.
I think Syracuse would have gone for a time by now if they were serious about qualifying a team.
I'm sure the Virginia tech coach knows/has thought about this since he gets paid to do so. I think they may field a good team but won't be too concerned if it isn't a fast race.
The real threat and question mark for teams on the bubble is the mpsf meet. Byu and ucla are the teams that could bump out other teams. I think it all comes down to if the other schools like Stanford and Oregon and Washington decide to field actual teams which would pull byu and ucla along to a qualifier. Oregon and Stanford may not field their A team but their B teams prolly could do very well. My guess is that byu and ucla do not get qualifiers and the list stays as is.
My other guess is that KD will suit up and race for LSU, would anyone at the meet really notice? I doubt it. LSU could just call racism and then they'd be in the clear if someone called them out on it
Any other possible teams that could go for a qualifier?
Brojos what are you predictions. You nerds have seen similar scenarios for years and I'm sure have a better clue than me and the other idiots on here
@DNFing - I was at JDL for the UCS meet DM. Virginia had two teams in the fast heat which produced the Ole Miss, Arkansas and Nova results. The B team 1200 runner was a rabbit and fell off after about 900. On UVA's A squad their 800 runner cramped up or injured his calf and was crawling on the infield on the turn just past the start finish line.
UVA's DMR A team anchor Henry Wynne then was a late add to the mile and with a rabbit for about 700 blew away the rest of the field with an unconverted mile time of 4:03.55
It's looking like Wynne isn't going to make indoor NCAA's. Which is pretty wild for the defending champ to not even make it back to the 'ship. He doesn't seem in great shape right now.
Also MIA are Haney and Prakel who should be title contenders. Weird season for the mile.
No way UVA qualifies a team. I doubt that ucla or BYU are able to both qualify as I can't see the other pac12 teams going for a fast dmr time, why would they. That being said, i don't think either of them are capable of getting into the top 12. Byu lost fair and square at Alex Wilson and ucla dropped the baton to avoid embarrassment. LSU last team in. List stays as it
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
