I don't know the origin of the "Amazon produces 20% of the world's oxygen" meme originated but it's probably confusing oxygen production with CO2 absorption. The Amazon is about 25% of the earth's terrestrial carbon sink and about 15% if one includes ocean sinks. Because the atmosphere contains so much more oxygen (21%) than CO2 (0.04%) the net oxygen emission is much smaller.
The impact of Amazon deforestation is not oxygen production, it is carbon dioxide absorption.
1) Without deforestation the Amazon does not act as either a sink or a source of either O2 or CO2. It absorbs the same amount of O2 as it produces. Same for CO2
Point 1 - Everything I've seen indicates there is net absorption of CO2, that is the absorption rate is a couple percent higher than the respiration rate. If you have some credible source that says otherwise, I'd be interested to see it.
Point 2 - Even with the postulate that the Amazon is currently carbon neutral, would it be expected to remain so with deforestation?
Not at all. He will stay in office whether impeached or not. The courts can more effectively go after him when he doesn't have the protection of his office. Not being impeached at this time does not mean he is getting away with anything.
Also Democratic Congressman in conservative districts may be endangering their position to vote to impeach.
Gotta think long ball here.

Putin will show up.
Maybe Bolsonaro, Erdogan and MBS will also be invited.
Trump will declare they are the only true world leaders, and everyone else is a loser.
Georgia senator Johnny Isakson has announced his early retirement at the end of the year due to failing health. This means that the governor will appoint a Trumpian senator to take his place until the special election in November of 2020. That means Georgians will elect two senators next year. One for a full term and the other for a partial term.
I find it sad that Isakson is leaving. My wife knew him when he was in the Georgia legislature and has lots of nice things to say about him. She now knows the mayor of Atlanta who told her that she also thinks very highly of Isakson.
Both my wife and the mayor are liberals but they have great respect for Johnny Isakson. He's a throwback to a better era.
Of course, we wish that a good man like that would have the guts to speak out against our bad joke of a president. Maybe now he will.
One thing is certain. Georgia is going to be the uber-battleground state next year.

Trump is a break-the-entire-system kind of president, and yet I am not confident that the demos will field a candidate who can beat him next year, with their lurch to the fringe in recent times.
Warren is starting to pull massive crowds and (smartly) working behind the scenes to confirm that she is planning to be 'mainstream' in her candidacy and when in office. That's what is needed. The dems have wasted so much time and energy running to the whacko marginal left. Mainstream, normal, adult, experienced, that I can live with.
Identity politics, trying to capture the lunatic fringe that won't vote, appeals to the idiot collectivist millennials, all losing tactics/strategies that Warren hopefully can move away from.
I take your points, but Biden (if he’s nominated) is not fringe.
If you were naive enough to believe he’d “drain the swamp” you were conned.

I remember it too. It was only last year. But it seems so long ago that one of the few adults in the administration called it quits.

$22 million is essentially zero on this scale. More of an insult than any real help.
You would think at a meeting of the leaders of the seven largest IMF-described advanced economies in the world, they could come up with a little more than $22 million.
$22m is actually a significant amount to help put out forest fires. The IMF often gives less than that for much larger initiatives. Nevertheless, they knew Brazil wouldn’t take it. It was symbolic to prove how little Bolsonaro gives a fvck about the environment. Macron is a real chess player, completely body slammed Bolsonaro with this one move.

At this time next year, trump will be getting attacked form every angle with the election... yeah this will sure help him haha

LOL ... extra money would find its way into Bolsonaro's pocket. He is a hardcore conservative, so pocketing money is par for the course. He is the leader of the conservative "Partido Social Liberal", the "Social Liberal Party" in English. Yup, Brazil hardcore conservative consider themselves social liberals.
Bolsonaro supports privatization and decentralization of government, and has conservative views on abortion, legalization of marijuana and gender identity. So, he is a conservative regardless of his party's name.
Party names were always meaningless there. There is a women’s party with only male members...

Trump would still bill taxpayers for the people who failed to attend. He'll book the rooms for them at top dollar rates. And he'll buy food that will go to waste. It's a good thing he cried out that he would profit. Just trying to recover his costs: buy at a discount and bill at the highest rate possible.
But remember... he claims to be foregoing billions in profits so he can serve the people as POTUS.. and the likes of Sally just swallow his load no questions asked

As much as I'd like Trump out of there, I think some brake pumping is needed on this story. Even if the story is 100% true, there would be no confirmation for a long time. Deutsche Bank has been very reluctant to turn over any documentation whether loan documents or tax forms based on dealings with Trump. The bank is very likely to, at best for those who want to see them, fight every request to the bitter end. I would guess than it would take until after the 2020 election before any documents which mean anything were to be handed over and that's assuming the bank ever hands anything over.
It was interesting today that Deutsche Bank did not deny the co-signers allegation nor did the WH in their angry response via twitter.

What Brazil is doing doesn't stop in Brazil. It affects the rest of the world.
If Canada started dumping all their raw sewage into rivers that flow to the US we would put a stop to it. We would take military action if necessary.
Just because you are a sovereign nation doesn't mean you get to harm the rest of us.
Unfortunately, our current president doesn't give us the moral high ground to take on Bolsonaro. But other nations can and should.
Yep, you are very knowledgeable... the US has been authoritarian for a very long time under both D and R presidents, so cut your bull

Bolsonaro is a total idiot. He actually wants Macron to say he's sorry before he will accept french aide to help with the Amazon fire.
I can see why trump likes him.
Yet Bolsonaro giggles with his politician buddy on Facebook when he suggested Macron’s wife was ugly... he openly admired Trump - there’s nothing more you need to know
Of all the decisions Trump administration has made about immigration so far, this might be the most cruel and inhumane one.

Not really. Bolsonaro's election was fueled in part by anti-globalist sentiment anyways so this just serves to justify those fears. Even those sympathetic to stricter rain-forest preservation see this as a Brazilian problem that doesn't need some condescending ex-banker (who isn't even terribly popular in his home country right now thank you very much) with a wry smile trying to teach them a lesson or whatever it is he's trying to prove.
