Russia has stepped up and is replacing the US as a major provider of soybeans. Many US soybean farmers will have no one sell to. They are screwed.

Not today, agip. I hope you, Fat Hurts, 100% 100% of the time Flagpole, Alan, and the rest of you guys on here have a most wonderful day. I said prayers for you all. God is watching over you.
And you too, Jesse! Vladimir sends his warmest regards!
I hope Butina & Manafort and the various trumpers in jail have a great day. Their prayers have been answered & they’re completely safe as long as they have no chance to interact with the public. Amen.
A result of the IQ45 Trade Wars is that his much hated Amazon.com is the highest valued company in the world, and worth nearly $45 billion more than the the next most valuable company, Apple. It is doubly that IQ45 ever thought his trade war would so enrich one of the people he hates most most in this planet--the owner of the Washington Post.
Hmmm … It is *doubtful* that IQ45 ever thought…

When I was growing up the alcoholic neighbor prayed before and after he beat his wife.

Did you know that the phrase "Tower of Babel" does not appear anywhere in the Bible?
So?
The Bible tells the story of a place referred to as "Babel" where the citizens attempted to construct a tower to reach to the heavens. But you think that the exact phrase "Tower of Babel" not being used is significant?
Really?
This is the same kind of "reasoning" that we see from people who say "'separation of Church and State' isn't in the Constitution!" Yes, that precise *phrase* is not (neither is "one man, one vote"); but the *principle* certainly is.

Past Presidents have punted on Chinese trade abuse for decades and guess what, Chinese GDP was through the roof and they were building their military with our money. Finally, Trump stands up to them. We cannot go back to business as usual with China because that is exactly what will happen if a democrat wins in 2020 except for Bernie (he has been a critic of Chinese unfair trade practices).
Trump will play the long game. Chinese GDP will take a hit and their currency will probably start to downtrend.
I noticed how you didn't make any argument for why Trump's approach will work, what the "long game" is, how this is the right play, what this is accomplishing compared to past Presidents, etc. Which makes sense, because Trump's approach is indefensible. He is completely sh!tting the bed.

The long game would bankrupt farmers and increase costs of many goods by 10-25%. Sounds great!
Especially because I know Rs love new taxes like these tariffs. Rs are the tax party - always throwing new taxes on us! Darn socialists, using government power to tell us what we pay for things. Unbelievable.
Right wingers, you should vote out these rotten Republicans who are making us pay tariffs for Chinese goods.
I'm trying to imagine the brain of a soybean farmer right now, who voted for Trump and has been a strong supporter. Surely some of these farmers are realizing that Trump doesn't have any idea what he is doing with trade negotiations, and they have to decide on crops now. Or maybe it's too late.
That, on top of learning Trump was america's worst businessman for 10 years.
You have to think some of them are starting to give the side eye to spanky.

Are you guys really too stupid to understand that Trump's ultimate goal is for China to eliminate tariffs against us? They've been applying tariffsa to many of our products AND subsidizing their own companies for decades. You know this, right?
I remember when the Left used to preach support for the "middle class", manufacturing, unions, etc. Suddenly they believe in free markets. So funny.

Trump's ultimate goal is to get reelected, and he thinks making enemies is his key to winning. Make enough Americans scared and they will circle the wagons. He started with 'Mexicans,' he moved on to Iranians and Chinese. His goal is to make you think he is fighting American enemies, and you believe it because you are weak.
If he wanted to end tariffs, he would have joined the TPP and used that as a trading bloc to isolate China.
If he knew what he was doing, he would have left some offramps for each side to take. Instead he is ramming full speed ahead, expecting China to agree to lose face and national pride because Amurica.
We'll get some solution, but only when 100 SP500 CEOs call the White House and scream at him to stop the madness. Then he will cave, but he'll tell you it's a great victory and you will believe him.

You are one incredibly ignorant moran. The US has been SUBSIDIZING markets a lot longer, and provided more "incentives", than China. Farmers get $25,000,000,000 each year, with 85% of that going to mega-farms, and 15% to real farmers.
https://www.thebalance.com/government-subsidies-definition-farm-oil-export-etc-3305788This ^ is precisely CORRECT! One of the best posts on the thread and dead-on in all aspects.
Hats off to you, sir.

This is *precisely* correct. The TPP would have been a great weapon against the unfair Chinese trade policies.
Oh, but DJT had to pull the USA out of that, because Obama.

He wasn't the only one. Republicans in the Senate also railed against it in 2016, because Obama.
