I think frequency matters as well, for that I go by who has the most top 500 and/or 1000 PERFORMANCES (NEVER MORE THAN 1000) and Ritz has 2 in the top 500 and 1000 no other American has more than 1, exept Khanouchi who has 0 top 500 performances and 3 top 1000 performances (but he ran all 3 before he represented the USA)
So hall is the top American Performer and Ritz has the most top 500 and top 1000 performances.

Ritz has had one good marathon relative to expectations set up by his combination of times and performances at 2M (8:11), 5000m (former AR 12:56), 10000m (27:22 in a warm tactical championships race the same year as his 5 and half pr's), and half marathon (60:00 (59:59.5) in a tactical relatively warm championship race, which could easily have broken Hall's record if it was cooler and less tactical)--a better performance with the bronze medal; 60:12 aided, and the other quick times). Marathon's never been his forte. 2:07:47 is a fine time, of course, but not for a 12:56 guy with limited speed (3:42? 1500m pr), and hence, excellent speed decay.
OK.
That makes a lot of sense when you say it like that.
I think TrackBot might also agree with you.

What kind of shape was Ritz in back in 2009?
Ritz was only 4 seconds behind Kenenisa Bekele in a 5000m race!
What???

Nope. Hall is.
Ritz would beat Hall. Hall was "better" than Ritz in 2008, when Ritz beat him in the Olympics. In NCAA XC, Ritz was coming off injury vs an in-shape Hall, & still beat Hall. When Ritz was 3rd in the WC 13.1, a prime Hall wouldn't have done better, but likely worse. Hall has no finish- save 1 time beating Dobson in NCAA. Hall flaunts fitness, but doesn't beat ppl in close races.
Head to head my money would be on Rupp.
On a certified course.

Nike's money would be on Rupp.
Unfortunately, Galen now has a very serious case of…plantar fasciitis.
All bets are off now.
Galen's last race:

Ridiculo.
Ritz was only 8 seconds behind Mo Farah in Sept, 2016 when Ritz ran 1:00:12.
Ritzenhein and Farah went through 10 miles in 45:40, well faster than Greg Meyer’s 1983 USA record of 46:13.

Here are the most interesting parts of the LRC article:
1)... the 33 year-old Farah clocked 1:00:04, the slowest of his three winning times here…
2)... the 33 year-old Ritzenhein, a three-time Olympian and world half-marathon bronze medalist, had other ideas…
3)… For Vivian Cheruiyot, today’s victory came with an extra bonus: it is her 33rd birthday...
Only if Rupp hasn't been born.
Ritz is too full of himself.

It is just a coincidence.

Hall ran faster and it was a huge performance at the time, it wasn't like a time trial thing. Hall destroyed Ritz at Marathon trials later the same year.
I think Ritz is assuming Hall didn't consider himself the unique breed called the "half-marathoner".
It's all about confidence - all the more power to him if he really believes what he's saying!
If I recall, the World Champs course in Britain where Ritz won a bronze medal had a deep field, was a tactical race with surges, and was not pool-table flat. And he still ran a great time. So yes, it's hard to argue against this being the best performance ever by an American in a half marathon.

Let's be honest though, be the best HALF marathoner is like being the best 60m runner. It's not the real thing

Ritz is the man. Smart guy
Hall is a religious nut who somehow was accepted at Stanford
Alan Webb had mood swings that made him change coaches as often as a high school girl changes her Facebook relationship status
Why can't people bragg a bit anymore? He's put in the hard work over the past 15+years, and come out with some world class results. It's okay by me if he calls himself, probably the best American half marathoner.
Way cooler a guy than Rupp seems to be. Hall gets too much crap on here too.
Also, if Rupp isnt running the Half this weekend because he thinks the weather will jeopardize his image because he doesnt run a world lead time, he's doing it for the glory. To me that isnt a great character trait.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
