Ever hear of Otis Davis. Mel Renfro. Harry Jerome. Etc etc I could go on and on.

Oh cmon guys, can't we let the guy paint Old Bill as a white racis redneck?? Where is your lessrun spirit?
It's too bad that Ches has been nominated 3 times and hasn't won, but in each year, the most deserving person won. To say that Ches is the greatest collegiate runner ever is extremely short-sighted. He's not even the best PAC-12 distance runner ever, as his times pale in comparison to Rono, for example (3 world records). Lawson did something that hasn't been done since Jesse Owens (80 years ago). He won 2 titles in his secondary events and was 4th in the Olympics in his best event. Very deserving winner.
Can we, at the very least, acknowledge that Lawson's times wouldn't have done anything for him last year. He captured the triple crowns during a slightly weaker year.
This site rants and raves about Galen rupp, but some how sees the justice in snubbing Edward cheserek.
I am further saddened that neither wejo or rojo can see the slight here. Che's has scored roughly 30 points each indoor season since his freshman year, soundly defeated a 13:00 5k athlete while capturing more tilted than any one ever before his senior year.
If he were a us citizen like Clayton Murphy he would have likely been on the us team at some distance. His talent is above and beyond that of any one we have seen in the NCAA, EVER.
Rojo, wejo, seriously paint a picture where you can justify saying he's not. He hasn't even looked tested at the NCAA level and, while I can not say for sure, seems to legitimately seem to have had issues during cross that inhibited his ability to capture an unprecedented 4 titles.
If he becomes a citizen and smashes all of the things rupp has done, will you eat your words? We all know how much more feasible triples are for jumpers and sprinters are which make the work he has done at the indoor championship last year that much more impressive.
Shame on every one for justifying a sprint performance in a weak field that "matched Jesse Owens." Keep some of the sprint talent in the NCAA for the last few years and Lawson might have gotten 5th.
I expect some solid responses.
First of all, Chesherwrecked is not American. Therefore you shouldn't be surprised he didn't get the award. Second, Chez is overrated and got himself DEVASTATED this year. He is not the king of anything.
It wasn't a snub. Lawson not only won the triple but is ranked more highly in the world than Ches, so how can you say it was JL that benefited from a weak field?
You mentioned Clayton Murphy. So in the 800, Murphy ended up getting an olympic bronze, is the fourth fastest in the world in 2016, and is now the third fastest ever American in the distance. What has Cheserek even remotely done that compares to that? He won a couple of college XC and indoor races? Ok
Why is everyone forgetting what Chesrek did last indoor season? He won the triple by running the last DMR leg after 30 minutes of winning the 5km by running close to 3:52 a mile. That was almost impossible before he did and make it look sadly in the process. Then he went to win the 3km beating the best running in the nation by running 1:55 last 800. Then outdoor he won the 5km and 10km. Chesrek deserve to win the trophy. He is 15 times NCAA champion! His team won twice. But the system of choosing the winner is bad, doesn't even consider what Chesrek did in cross. That should have counted because that mean Chesrek had a long season comparing to the jumper or the sprinter. Over all the system is corrupt and against distance athlete and please remind me the last time a distance runner from Kenya won the trophy??? so don't tell me he doesn't deserve to win it, All the process choosing the winner is BS.
ESL, bro? You're writing like an Oregon grad.
Ches? Chelimo? Lawi?
While this award does not take olympics/worlds performance into account, it is ultimately still voted by a group of people and not based on points system. Lawson's superior performance at the trials and Olympics have swayed many votes, which should be anyway.
Honestly when Cheserek becomes an American citizen I suspect we will see some legit performances. In regards to Clayton Murphy and his bronze, awesome. In regards to what he has done in the NCAA, which is what the award is based on, he has one title. ONE. Ches has 15.
Cheserek hasn't run a single race ever in a time trial fashion to demonstrate what he is truly capable of. And therefore loses any opportunity to be ranked highly in the world. The only times that he has shown flashes of what we can expect when he becomes a professional are the aforementioned national championships where he put the smack down on every one, doubling and tripling, which, if Clayton Murphy is such a boss, should have meant that a 1500/800 double should have been very doable.
It is my sincere hope that Ches becomes an American and dominates american distance running for the next ten years so that I can enjoy some serious bitching on this board about how he is an import just like Bernard Legat.
I doubt it, but maybe then, some one will acknowledge his dominance.
Also as a quick update for those that love Cam Levins, Ches owns superior personal bests across the board with the exception of the 10k. I would suggest that Ches has the capability to run that fast, he just hasn't seen the need thus far.
Mr. Levins was good enough to win the Bowerman.......once.
Ches has had the quality performances each of his first three years to be considered the best in the league.
