Absolutely, he should have gotten it the previous couple years. Not this year, though, because he lost xc nationals. Nevertheless, even this year, he had a very strong case for it with his prior titles.
Lawson had a great showing at NCAAs though, 3 individual titles in one competition, on both the field and track? Thats pretty hard to beat.
15 National titles for Ches is pretty tough to beat.
Lawson was in Jesse Owens' territory, so it's not like there was no competition. He'll have another shot for next year.
The Bowerman is based off track it doesn't even XC into consideration.
it doesn't appear they take XC or Indoors into account...

Based on outdoor track performance, even the 13:24 by McGorty is more impressive than anything Cheserek has done this year. Right or wrong?

EXACTLY. One of the hardest triples in track & field! Only takes the best athletes to pull this off. Not to mention that he also went to the Olympics & turned pro.
Clayton Murphy had a better outdoor season than Ches. He won NCAA 1500 and Olympic 800 bronze. I'd take that over anything Ches did outdoors.
It amazes me at the lack of intelligence some people have in saying that Cheserek was robbed of the Bowerman! Lawson had a great season and so did Cheserek, but topping Jesse Owens at the NCAA put him over the top.
If what athletes did AFTER the NCAA counted for Bowerman consideration, Ches might not have even made the final three. It would be a close call between Lawson and Clayton Murphy.
If there is a fault in the Bowerman process, it's that Olympic/World Championships performances are not even considered.
Ches still has a shot to win it next year (based on this year's track season).
The winner finished 4th in the Olympics - no comparison.
Lawson made the Olympic team and finished 4th. Ches probably wouldn't have made the US team over 5k if he was elligible to compete for it. That's the difference. Shoulda won NCAA XC last month buddy.
has anyone ever won the Bowerman ranked as low as Ches is in the world

You are joking, right? I barely pay attention to awards like this but knew without a doubt that Lawson was going and should get it this year. He won 3 events at NCAA outdoors and scored 31.5 points. Game over.
I know during Ches's freshman year Lendore won it. He was undefeatd at 400, ran 44.36 and was on the 4 x 400 team that missed the CR by .01 and he split 44.10. He also was on the 4 x 100 team that was 2nd at NCAAs.
Quick History Lesson: Name the three black athletes Bowerman coached to NCAA championships: Emery Barnes (HJ), Harry Jerome (100m and 220yh) and Bouncy Moore (LJ).
See
best college runner. yes Jessie Owens and Carl Lewis Henry Rono etc pale in comparison
Another quick history lesson: name the black athlete Bowerman coached to an olympic gold medal.: Otis Davis (400m).
Not American. Doesn't count.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
