BullSlacker wrote:Really? Ok I'll spell it out for you. The professional milers can run 3:57 for their last rep in a set of three miles. 3:57 is not good enough to get put into the most prestigious mile event on the international athletics calendar.
There was another mile on that weekend in Eugene, and that is the one Hunter should have been entered in. Instead they put in Grice who soloed a 3:52.
You failed spelling in school didn't you?
Nobody wanted to see him in the international mile. It was absolutely the right move, if Webb followed your advice Ryun might still hold the record. It doesn't matter what Centro can run the mile in.
There are tens of 3:57 milers. It matters that schoolchildren are put into professional races because of hype. This session puts Hunter's times into perspective. I wonder what Kiprop could do, maybe 3 x 3:57? It was disrespectful to the professional athletes to put a school aged child and make him the centre of attention.
Webb was better than Hunter is anyway.
FRAME OF REFERENCE
Bekele only averaged 4:03.76 in his 5000m WR.
I stupidly ask if Centro ran 3 mile repeats or 3 1600 repeats.

He is 28 will he better any of these PRs?
He turned 27 less than 2 months ago. And yes he certainly will. I bet he could break the AR in the 3k some day and do some damage in the 5k too. I think he could still get under 3:30 too, and certainly break Alan Webb's AR in the mile if the Bowerman mile isn't a boring and tactical 3:51 race this coming year.
Did they look relaxed?

It sure as hell wasn't Drew Hunter's fault that he was in that international race at Eugene. I think it was great for the sport that he was, and had he not been beaten down by, at that point, undiagnosed Lyme Disease (discovered after he returned to VA), he most likely (yeah, we'll never know) would have run, oh, two, three seconds faster. And it would have blown all of our minds.
He doesn't think he had it in him to break Alan Webb's HS record, even in perfect conditions and feeling tip-top. But a 3:55, say, would have led to lotsa people in the stands going goofy over what they were privileged to watch live.
Kiprop and the other elites know that a 3:55 would not have amounted to a hill of beans as a purely comparative time, but in terms of potential it would have been admired by just about everyone in that race.
I mean, look at the video of Webb's record run, and look how a certain all-time great miler honored Webb by running a victory lap with him. Something somewhat similar would have happened with Drew, even if he'd only run a 3:55. Those who have been on the path to greatness recognize that you don't get there overnight.
Back when Webb set the record there was probably some grumbling among the elites that this high school kid was allowed into THEIR race. But the result was met with awe, even if some of it might have been a begrudging kind of awe from those who feared that their futures might be in doubt due to the young buck.
Sorry...just felt like rambling a bit!

Beat me to it.
Not to mention that the Dempsey is the best track to run the mile outside of maybe Monaco.

Centro, sue Magness for slander....
The centro sauce is indeed working
Anyone have any guesses to whether it was 3xmile or actually 3x1600? Normally it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but at these speeds, it'd be even that much more impressive if they actually are full miles.

And you're still bitter about it 7 months later?
I want to know what Alberto wanted them to hit. Was it like 4:05, 4:03, 4;00 and they were a bit quick or was it 3x4:05
I would guess, with no inside knowledge, that Alberto wanted 4:06 4:02 3:58. Those numbers make the most sense, because I doubt he wanted 4:04 4:00 3:56.

Um, Centro beat Kiprop.
Seems pretty incredible! - especially considering his anemic 3k/5k times
I guess for 3:30 1500 guy it is doable, but that 3:57 at the end is what stands out. I wonder if he is running club cross this year.
I ran 3x1600m@5:05, 5:03, 5:04 a couple weeks before my 5000m PR of 15:40.02.
So Centro could probably run a hair under 12:31 right now.
Don't forget Jenkins at 12:34.

Seems like he's been out to prove something since getting a gold for 3:50. Won't do any good... when Phil goes to prison, the whole house of cards will come crashing down.
