This is the kind of elitist jerk who has no kids and does nothing but runs. He works too, but he's a real jerk!
Did you sit in your seat and brood the whole way?
Was it an A321? Those are great airplanes. Every seat is a freaking throne.

Airline logic is not meant to be understood by the traveler. I will never understand why they refuse to allow you to carry a suit in a suit bag folded in half sitting on your lap. Or God forbid resting on top of your carryon not bothering anyone. Instead they demand you to check it. So it forces you to wear it for business trips.
What? I always travel with a light carry-on bag and a suit, when entering the plane I give the suit bag to the flight attendates which hangs it up in a "closet".

Amen bro. Amen. It's not even a real safety issue. If you crash at 200mph+, place is a fire ball anyway. And how's a folded suit or dress shirts that you don't want to get wrinkled going to become a safety issue? It's fvckin retarded.
Usually I'll sit there seatbelt on with the clothes in my lap and wait until every fat*as has finished packing in all the overhead bins. Then the flight attendant will be like to me: "Sir, that can't remain like that there in your lap. You're going to have to put it in one of the overheads." And I'll let them do it for me. OR they'll be like "Sir, are you Ok? Let me hang that for you up at the front of the plane."

People like dat should be punched.
Yeah that sucks.
What are your PRs? Track? Road races?
What is your weekly mileage?
p.s. I always say, "i'll get on the plane and if there is no space, i'm happy to check my bag but i'd like to try since i have a short connection etc..."
What you do is you say yes I'll check my bag, let them put a bag check tag on, & then instead of leaving it at the end of the ramp just before you step onto the plane , bring it on the plane anyway

Slim-line seats are great if you're a 145lb 5'7 distance runner. That's about it.
I always carry on my bag as far as they let me to protest bag fees.
I was on an A319 recently which has basically no bin space and literally 30 people had to stand on the jetway to get gate checked.
This was never an issue before bag fees and one must suspect it is costing the airlines money to have to spend 20 min before every flight checking backs at the gate.
If you'd just take those sticks out of your hair....
Doofus. If you ask when you enter the plane they will gladly do this for you. This way you don't have to go trough the act nor risc there not being anymore space to hang the suit bag up. Just act normal, how hard is it?

Dude. She probably gives that line on every flight. She only gets criticized if the flight doesn't leave on time. Thus she wants people to check bags. She doesn't care if it's 20% empty or 50% empty. She only loses if it's so packed the flight is delayed.
As a frequent flier, I would think you'd know that.
It's rather simple really. If there is a non-crash emergency such as a fire on the tarmac or something and they have to evacuate the plane quickly, you can't have luggage and crap getting in the way. It's tough enough to get a plane full of people off quickly, yet alone with someone's garment bag or other crap getting in the way. It has to be under the seat or in the overhead.

Just got on a KLM flight from Amsterdam to the U.K. and the gate attendant insists she has to check my bag because the plane is getting full. Mind you, I'm at the front of the economy class line, so maybe one-third of the plane has boarded at this point.
And before any trolls chime in about the idea that only serfs travel in economy class, don't. I'm a United 1K flier but I didn't have any Star Alliance alternatives tonight.
Anyway, I'm sitting in my seat now and half - I kid you not - half the overhead is free. So now I have the pleasure of hanging around at baggage claim like a clown all because some attendant struggles with basic math & probability.

Flights from European airports are more strict about bags. It's how Lufthansa boards A380s faster than United boards 737.
And KLM sucks. Dreamliner is nice in business class, but other than that it's a bottom tier euro carrier. Avoid when possible.
Hopefully gate checking your bag was free.

A321 seats are dangerous for those guys, they can get lost. It can take weeks for them to find their way out again, or they might get sat on and killed by a big fat person.
Ha, this literally happened to me flying United back to Toronto from San Jose.
Had a connecting flight in Houston.
The first flight was severely delayed and so I had to literally run from one gate to another to catch the connecting flight from Houston to San Jose. Since my small suitcase was "had" to be checked in instead of carried on, it didn't make the transfer and so I was without my luggage upon arrival in Toronto.
Fortunately this happened on a return flight; if it was at the onset of the trip this would be extremely annoying.
