McGorty ran a 3:53 mile. That's, what, 3:35 or 3:36? I think he has 5k potential.

e never been a buyer of Fisher's long term success. I just don't see him getting much better than he is currently
All are great competitors and runners with much potential. I enjoy watching them.
And they can take motivation from the experts on this thread, especially the guys on the bottom of the list. JK, keep working and maybe you will defeat SM and EC someday. And PT maybe will eventually take down the guys rated ahead of him-
Maybe not in a championship race though.

The only one I might be wrong about is Ches - he might get under 13:10, too, but, if he stays a Kenyan citizen, there will be little developmental support for him after his college career is over - he'll be down around 50 or lower on the national lists. I think he needs another two years - minimum - before he can reach his 5k potential, and, given that it's not really high - again, he's not a guy with a 3:35 under his belt - which he would need to be able to sell himself as a future Olympian - he's not going to get much help going forward.
Is Mr. Cheserek not a great fit with the likes of Galen "I'm A Late Bloomer, And In Double Jeopardy I'm Going To Bloom" Rupp, Matthew "Dad's Going to Have To Go Back To The Olympics So My Tattoo Works Again" Centrowitz Jr., Cameron "Just Let Me Go Back To Running 300km/wk and Colouring in My Dreidel Colouring Book" Levins, Mo "My Publicist Created the Mobot So People Would Forget About How Much Better KB Is Than Me" Farah, Eric "Free Jenkins" Jenkins, and Jordan "Adorable" Hasay under the tutelage of Mr. Salazar? He has the finishing kick, the Nike/Oregon ties, and the preexisting fan base (thanks to Flotrack and the group of high schoolers that flood their site) to make Him a good fit with the Oregon Project. I'd typically agree with you on the whole "Africans are going to have a tough time getting substantial endorsement deals" argument, but Lawi Lalang and Kennedy Kithuka weren't the personification of everything that is NCAA distance running like Mr. Cheserek has become. To wit: Mr. Lalang, despite running his stout 13:00 5000m race prior to his senior cross country season, never achieved the household notoriety of "the King" (seriously though your mom wouldn't stop talking about Him last night. It was pretty annoying.). Before anybody tries to jump in and write some garbage about "Mr. Lalang/Kithuka was every bit the NCAA favorite that Mr. Cheserek was this year. You're just another one of those new fans of the sport," let me stop you now: they weren't. While I don't necessarily think Mr. Cheserek's loss was more of a surprise than were the losses of Mr. Lalang or Mr. Kithuka (I mean, who expected Mr. Cheserek to take down the reigning NCAA champ when He was a mere freshman? Nobody. It wasn't even a discussion...but Mr. Kithuka's name hadn't been in the spotlight long enough for him to overcome the loss, and as a result he's probably working as a plus-sized belt salesman (that's how he met your mom!).), it had more publicity thanks to the ease of news publication and His aforementioned preexisting fame.
This preexisting fame is most likely due to Mr. Cheserek's timing of entering the NCAA system after having a stellar prep career with Flotrack, Letsrun, and your mom following His every step. Some cheered for Him to win because it's fun to watch a record fall; others hoped for His failure because He's a filthy age cheat who is probably on something. Whatever the case, He will not have any trouble landing a lucrative shoe deal once He completes His eligibility with UO this spring. Once He's scored said contract, He'll be able to drop his personal bests into the 3:34, 12:58, 27:15 range and possibly compete for a spot on the Kenyan Olympic 5,000m team in 2020 under the guidance of Mr. Salazar. His personal records will likely end up better than the rest of the lot in this discussion; His 5,000m PR will likely surpass that of Mr. Rupp within the next 2 years. I guess Mr. Knight seems to have the wheels to compete, but I don't suspect he will.
BOOK IT.
Pretty sure Knight and Mcgorty both have faster mile times than fisher. Which makes only tiernan slower than fisher at a mile.
Anyways, my order is:
Knight, Fisher, Ches, Tiernan, Mcgorty.
Knight seems the most talented. Has good leg speed and took 2nd at NCAA XC under what has been rumored to be a relatively low mileage training plan.
Fisher Keeps on steadily improving. Has decent mile speed and has shown promise in XC and the 5k so far.
Ches, Kenyan. Will likely run faster, but probably end up like most of the other decent kenyans and fade away after running some low 13's. (maybe not, we'll see)
Tiernan is damn good but seems to be more like an XC/10k guy. Could end up running pretty fast for 5k too, though.
Mcgorty ran like 3:53 or so for a mile this past year and has shown XC and 5k strength. Seemed like he struggled a little bit during XC but he has promise. We'll see how it ends up, though.

Tiernan is more of a 10,000 guy. Probably Knight since he is more geared towards 15 &5.
Fisher should be decent but not as talented as Knight.
Ches will vanish like Lawi and Kithuka.
Who's McGorty?
Mcgorty is the fastest miler in the NCAA and is gonna be the fastest out of all of them. Aren't Fisher and Knight Canadian? If so that should help w making worlds/oly teams. Chez might make some teams if he gets us citizenship and tier and already run at the olympics. The answer is probably Fisher
Since announcing his decision to sign with adidas, Andrew Hunter ha sido been pretty quiet. I think he ran another 3:57 mile during the summer, but didn't do anything in the fall since he doesn't run cross country. Anyone's have any opinions on where he will fit in this group? He seems like he's gonna be more of a 5k guy.
I agree that both Fisher and Hunter have the talent to go sub-13. In the mile, in the coming years you have McGorty, Fisher, Hunter AND Slagowski duking it out...behind Centro and Murphy, of course.
What about Drew? wrote:

What has he done since college? Nothing
I literally just told you. He's run 13:00 since college.
1) Morgan McDonald
2) The rest
Bit of an exaggeration but I still think he's underrated, no clue how he hasn't come up yet in this thread! 9 seconds slower than Tiernan over 5k but 2 years younger. Runs .5 second behind fisher at NCAA XC and now he's out of the conversation?

Who?
Ill come back to this thread in 4 years and remind you who ☺ï¸
The amount of misinformation in just two pages of this thread is staggering.
Fisher - 12:58
McGorty - 13:00
Ches - 13:03
Knight - 13:05
Tiernan - 13:07
Hunter - 13:16
Predicted Order
1. Fisher
2. Knight
3. McGorty
4. Ches
5. Tiernan

@Coach bigfoot: when exactly did Mr. Lalang run 13:00 after losing to Mr. Cheserek at NCAAs as a fifth-year senior at Arizona in 2014?

A list of very talented guys that we should all be thankful for on this Thanksgiving day. Gives old washed up hacks something to write/talk about.
They all are great for the space they are in now.
I wish them all the very best in their running, studies, and wherever that takes them for years to come.
To all the critical 'thinkers' who have posted, wouldn't it have been great to have been in these guys shoes? Support them rather than bash them. Our sport needs support from every possible corner.
Each of these guys are very talented and of strong will. They will do great things in life.
Just wondering what the reasoning has been for years now that grant won't do anything and won't be really good, it's always just the way people feel and I never see any sound reason for this thinking. It honestly makes no sense.

Feelings, nothing more than feelings...
Trying to forget their feelings of... In adequacy.
They should be showing feelings of love.
The OP asked for opinions of what the order of these runners would be- there isn't any 'misinformation' or hating on this thread, as I see it. If you disagree with the ranking of Fisher, that is fine. Provide your own order.
I'll say it again- I don't think Fisher will pan out to be quite the runner he looked like in HS. This is not in any way a personal attack on him or hating him- the fact is that there are very, very few Americans that end up running 13:05 or faster. I don't think Fisher will be one of them.
Sorry for the double post- what do people think about Saarel's future and where does he fit in this list? He seems to have gone backwards since his freshman XC season.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
