Appreciate the suggestions but I want something that is fun and creative so that is why I've settled on front end for now.
In this order:
HTML/CSS (know it's not coding but will get me going)
Javascript/ JQuery
Python
PHP (maybe)
I need a challenge but also want to have fun designing and building things. I feel learning Objective C etc. to "automate tasks" wouldn't be very fun.
Hmm you misread my quote. I mention learning scripting language to automate certain tasks or at least make them less verbose using a script that will do all the steps for you. For example, you might make a script that will move all of the image files from one directory to another, or rename, or build a project, etc. Much easier than typing out all of the shelll commands everytime you do something that's easily able to be scripted.
Objective-C is for iOS and Mac app development. Swift is replacing it but you'll need to learn it if you are going to be a maintenance developer (new devs usually do some maintenance work on legacy code before getting thrown into new projects).
But, if you want fun and creative, then of course, Android and iOS (Java and Objective C/Swift) are great options. How cool is it to quickly prototype something that you can run on your phone and showoff to your friends?
And for prototyping iOS apps, xCode is great. It has this nice feature called Storyboarding.
